I really, really want AWD,but, there are very few cars that are out there in AWD and the styles/price I like.

At this point I'm probably going to end up with a New GTI. I'll be able to get exactly what I want--minus AWD, of course.* and it's in my price range. For nearly the same as what I'm paying now, I can have a brand new car, that's slightly faster, better build quality, and exactly the color and options I want.

So, yeah. If all goes well, I'll be rockin' a new GTI this auto-x season. I haven't done any mods to my current GTI because I knew I wasn't going to keep it for long. But, the new GTI will get some serious mods.

*The R32 isn't really an option for me due to price and options (no manual) and insurance.

Word. It's still a ways away till I get one. once i move to Anchorage (early to mid march) I'll get serious about it. and start contacting the dealer for prices, and availability and what-not.

Of course, I want a fully loaded GTI. and not the base model, but damn. heated seats sure are nice in winter time......

For everyone, but especially those who are going to try for the first time this coming season, here's the 2007 SCCA Solo 2 Rules -

http://www.alaskascca.com/New%20Webs...7SoloRules.pdf

Some light reading material.

for first timers, the basics that you need to know are:

- bring id
- you can borrow a helmet (after 2 times you pay 10 bucks or something) if you need or you can bring your own. check the rules for the right kind of helmet you'll need.
- clean your car. and be prepared to take out 'loose' things. like floor mats and what-not.
- tire pressure gauge. i got a cheap one from a gas station for like, 2 bucks. it works well enough for a newbie like myself.
- put some extra air in your tires before you get there. or if you know someone who is nice and shares you can use their air. general rule is about 10 extra PSI (right?)
- Get there early.
- don't be afraid to ask for help, or questions.
- have fun.
- bring cash
- give cash to Minimaul

Yeah, the Miata would be a good choice. Most courses up here are short, tight, and not super fast. Miatas do very well.

I'm getting excited about the Solo II season, too!! Nice to see this thread being resurrected. I might be driving a Subaru this season (no, not my own).

Minimaul- why not by a WRX!??

Firestrike- While modding is fun and all, it is not necessary to be competative in Solo II

Modding is fun. It may not be necessary, but it is already done. Game on. ^^

Sweet!

I'm sure most of what I feel is the swaybar. Since I installed the bar and the links at the same time, I have no clue how much the endlinks are really helping. But, it was pretty noticeable when I test drove the car. The car felt taller for a bit, then I realized it was just because it wasn't leaning much. It makes bumpy parking lots a bit less enjoyable, though.
When I get the rear bar and endlinks on, it should be even more noticeable.
i don't notice any differences with my endlinks. and since i'm SM, nothing changes for me (i don't think). new tires will be on the car this year so hoping that will help improve my times from last season. my goal this year is to just work on beating each of my laps. once i start worrying what everyone else does, i suck!

so Jake, you wanna take the new set up for a spin once i get all the tuning done? show me how to drive my car the way it was meant???

Mainly because there are no coupes/hatchbacks. I'm not a fan of the styling--I like it, but, I don't love it.

Insurance would be $100 per month more than I'm paying now. Gas mileage is a smaller factor too.

I love the GTIs inside and out. Subaru's just doesn't "do it for me." I'm not saying they are bad cars, I'm just saying that I don't want to buy one. heh.

I guess, I just like German cars.

Get out of our board you hippie

So with Bartlet becoming harder and harder to schedule because of all that school stuff, and the new racing rules out in the valley... any ideas were events will be held this year? I know the alaska raceway fell into a pre-existing race area before the racing bylaws were passed in the valley... but we need more locations then that.

I'm not a hippie! Besides, most people in Girdwood drive Subaru's!

I wonder if any other schools in Anchorage would be usable/available for Auto-X.

German car driving yippie!

Most schools in Anchorage are too close to residential areas and get too many complaints about tire noise, etc.

Impreza insurance rates are silly.

Zeee Germans are invading zee nabisco. lol..

great to see it resurrected. its a fun time for most everyone that shows. definitely am gettign antsy waiting for the season. I'll still be SM and in zee german automobile.. nothing new this year for me.

I share your sentiments minimual, while I have toyed (as everyone on AKIC knows) with the idea of selling mine and going for a LGT, I still am swayed by the german styling and feel. I'm diggin the new 335xi's, and the new S5's they are coming out with.
