Default where do i start?

Hey all,

I have an '04 WRX with a VF34, AP stg 2 w/supporting mods. I am considering buying a protuner to tinker with things a little bit but i have no tuning experience myself just a fairly competent understanding of the parameters involved. I used to own a turbo'd 240 KA24 which i did all the work on myself so i do have some hands on experience with turbocharged cars.

My question is where is the best place to begin tweaking? (assuming I buy a wb02 with the protuner) If anyone else with a similar setup could post in the things they changed first and the effects it had I would greatly appreciate that. I want to learn for myself how it works but I also want to do things right. If anyone has any websites/books that are helped them with their tuning please post them here so we can all benefit. I have read through Cobb's online manual and found it helpful but not quite enough for me to tackle the tuning myself confidently. I live in Alberta Canada where we have no real protuners nearby(that i know of at least) so i don't want to screw things up. Many thanks.

John

vf34 is not stage 2, it's stage 4, just so ya know

and a good place to start is Jeff Hartmans "how to tune and modify EMS". Then just keep reading and reading and reading. Log, tinker with small changes in the maps, read, log some more, tinker some more, you get the drift. There is a wealth of tuning information on these boards that a simple search can extract. Use common terms within the tuning and EM forum like "air to fuel ratio" "ignition timing" etc. As with any interent site you'll have to weed out the crap but it should definitely get you on your way! Gl.

if you want to get really technical, it's a "Cobb Stage 2.5" setup. VF30/34, pink injectors, turboback.

Also StreetTuner is the name of the software you want. Unless you want to open a shop and start ProTuning cars for other people.

whoops sorry guys... i gotta get the lingo down. Thanks for the tip about the book, that is kind of what i was looking for. I have been doing lots of reading on the forums but its hard to really know what to trust sometimes. Alot of things have been passed on so many times through word of mouth that the original intent is totally lost.
