Vehicle:2004 wrx black boost gets you laid |
so i flashed to stage two when i got my accessport last week and there is a lot more power but its now boostin a little less than stock boost(like twelve pounds) and im wondering whats going on. my freind told me that sometimes the wrx has to have the high boost map downloaded of of cobbs website to have it boost the full 16/17 pounds. anyone else have this problem? let me know what you guys think about it. thanks. jerry

are you checking this at wot or what kind of boost gauge are you using to read the boost. to see 16-17 pounds it will have to be at wot if at wot you are still hitting only 12 pounds then you need to call cobb first thing monday morning they are the best ones to talk to and great customer service

It may need more time to learn. When I first flash boost is right where it's supposed to be, then it likes to pull some out, and slowly over the next few days add some back. Watching the data logs during this time shows a lot of movement in the timing and multiplier. Noticed at a recent track day, during the cooler morning air boost was right on target, later when the parking lot hit 107+ it dropped several pounds, don't know if this was from the hot air trying to be compressed, or the heat causing the ECU to pull boost not liking something it was seeing. For some reason I couldn't hit target boost on the reg map, the data logs looked good so I switched to the hwg map. It worked the same way, at first it would hit target boost, then after a while it backed off target, week or so later it was back where it was supposed to be. Think it's just part of the learning process for the ECU.
I don't think you will hold max boost till redline. Mine will hold max boost through the midrange and then taper off toward the top, so it makes a difference where in the rpm range you are checking it. |

I have a custom stage 2 flash on my WRX, gutted up/downpipe, airbox removal. I doubt that the exhaust is free enough to really see ~16, but I would like to see it hit the .1 mpa ~14.5psi range. I'm going to wait a week and tighted the wastegate actuator slightly and check for any miniscule exhaust leaks. I live in a very warm humid area (DFW Texas) so even in the morning its rare for it to be lower than 80 degrees. This might be most of the issue, but target boost on the map @WOT should attempt hit 16.3ish in 3rd, and I think its peaking around stock boost 13.5-13.7. I will say it gets there freakin fast, and the car is hauling but I think it has a bit more in it. The map is also for 91, and I am running 93. I figured this would give me a decent margin of error to boost a bit more without risk of failure. Any other ideas guys?
