Thumbs up

Nice to see pictures of the 2K GT wagon in action. Is that a stock wagon? If so, how did it handle? I'm attending a street school at Thunderhill Raceway at the end of the month, and I was wondering what I can expect. I've never really pushed my wagon that hard before.

I've x-crossed my 98 GT wagon several times and your 2000 model tips sound just like mine. I will add a larger rear swaybar later next year. Wagons tend to dive into corners with lots of oversteer if you have even abit to much speed. I must concur with comments on the RE92, not a bad tire I have 33,000 miles on the current ones, they will last til next spring. Then we will put on Michlin's Pilots.
See ya in the fastlane.

Bone stock. Aftermarket motor oil, and that's it.

The OEM RE-92s are decried everywhere for being terrible tires, but I don't think they are nearly as bad as people claim. I wouldn't buy them; but I'm not going to throw them out either. I've get Nexuses waiting in the garage, but they'll stay until I kill the Bridgestones.

The Legacy handles fine; great for a nearly 3500 pound wagon. The center of mass is a bit high, so it will roll significantly, but it still sticks well.

As far as I can tell, it isn't possible to spin the wagon on corner exit, because of the AWD. This makes it very easy to drive; don't try to carry excessive speed through the corner, instead, concentrate on getting on the throttle as soon as possible after turn-in. WOT and let the car figure the rest out.

Slow in, fast out is the way to go; even moreso than with most cars.

In some of those pictures, you can tell how hard I'm on the throttle while cornering by the lift at the inside front. The earlier you open the throttle, the faster you go on the straight.

I also found the wagon would rotate very well for a relatively big car; not like my deceased MR2, but very well. I was able to negotiate one of the right angle corners at a good speed without braking by lifting, turning in, and punching it.

Most importantly, with the rear seat folded down, I was able to nap in the back between runs.

Question

Are the Legacys run in ES class?

I went by the local autocross today to have a look-see. Not a single Subaru there. There was a guy there in a Shelby Cobra kit car, with a big ol' V8 in it. Man, that sucker looked like a handful! He had decent times, but he sure had to work for it. The kids got a kick out of it.

Legacies are in E Stock, but I run Street Touring S with mine. It is legal for both, but I get indexed differently in STS.

We had 3 Cobra replicas show up last event; at least 2 of the drivers were first-timers, and I helped them figure out how grid works. I saw one run in the rain 2 years ago; he could scarcely touch the gas without going around.

OTOH, I don't drive the Subaru much different in the rain, or ice, or snow. Get on the gas early, and let the differentials figure it out.

I need to clarify a point from my previous message. Turbo legacies are in ES, as well as 'Legacy 2.5GT', but all others should be in HS.

Yes, the 2000 GT isn't technically a '2.5 GT' but I think that'll be clarified eventually.
