Question Alberta Motor Vehicle Act

Hey, I just had a quick question. My roommate is a cop here in BC and we were talking about the differences in the traffic laws between provinces. I had a few questions about some specific things.

Underbody kits (LED/Neon), is it legal to have them on while operating the vehicle, or does it have to be parked? I know in BC thats a big no no, basically makes you a target. I see alot of guys get nailed for the LED washer lights & those LED valve stem covers.

Plus theres obviously the issue with window tint, we have a few traffic guys up here that bring scrapers around with them. But I heard Alberta was fine to have tint on anything but the windshield.

The other thing was exhaust systems and whether or not they make a big fuss over loud mufflers.

Lemme know if you have any insight on any of the differences that would specifically relate to tuner cars.

any tint ahead of the drivers head is illegal in AB.

Here's what I found in the

ALBERTA REGULATION 304/2002
Traffic Safety Act
USE OF HIGHWAY AND RULES OF THE ROAD REGULATION

Noise

82 A person shall not create or cause the emission of any loud noise
(a) from a vehicle or any part of it, or
(b) from any thing or substance that the vehicle or a part of the vehicle comes into contact with.

Disturbance of residential area

87 A person driving a vehicle shall not, during the period of time commencing at 10 p.m. and terminating at the following 7 a.m., drive the vehicle on a highway in a residential area in a manner that unduly disturbs the residents of the residential area.

Mufflers can be no louder than 60db at idle.

Any exterior lighting, apart from the car's factory lights are illegal. In fact, there's a max candle watt power that limits fog lights to low beam only, etc.

actually you are a bit mistaken there...

exterior lighting ON THE SIDE of the car is not governed at all. The bylaws only govern the color, distance viewable, and placement on the front and rear of the vehicle. Ever wonder why the trucks can have so many freakin orange lights on the side of their trucks???

oops, I stand corrected.

Doesn't it get into colour as well? I.e. blue and red are only for emergency vehicles?

Thanks

Yeah J your right on the color issue, thats why those blue signal lights you see hondas running are a big no no. Exhaust here can be ticketed at police descression. Calgary By law says your exhaust outlet cannot be bigger then your factory outlet....and the tip cannt be bigger then the outlet on the muffle or some crap like that, trust me i got a ticket for which got thrown out in court because the cop didnt show but reguardless they hate tuner cars here because of the really big street racing scene
