need help with fuel leak

okay i gots this problem thats getting bigger. i gots a fuel leak out of the take of my 96 brighton. its leaking out of the spot that the top half and the bottom half of the tank are put togther and it has rusted there is now is leaking. i found out that its in the 350-400 range for a new tank. im not real shure if i feel like getting involved in changing the tank so there maybe labor also. i noticed that the impreza L tanks are cheeper than the brightons. Is there a reason for this? can i used a L tank in my car? my second thought is just installing a fuel cell into where the spare tire gos. has anyone done this before? i plan to make this car into a rally car so this would be one step closer. any one that has some input will help a lot.

You should check with local laws first before using a fuel cell... if you are planning on running a rally car, a fuel tank should be easy to replace. Drain the fuel, disconnect the pump and wiring, drop the tank, replace...

i see the job of droping the tank being a pain because having to drop all parts in the rear end witch are mostly rust up and would rather not chance snaping them. i also see the the fuel cell being a cheeper easyer way out as long as it all can be hooked up with out any probs.

My fuel filler neck is rusted and leaking. I was thinking about welding it shut.
