Default Cops and neighbors and grannies OH MY! (w/MSPAINT)

At my wife's job, she usually works afternoons, but today the morning girl wanted to swap shifts. Good thing she did, because otherwise she would have missed all the neighborhood action.

As I understand it, a cop rolled up to our neighbor's house across the street (right above "ME" in image below) and took some papers up to the door. After he showed up, the ENTIRE street filled up with out of town cars (for the most part, Nebraska's plates have the first two digits as a county identifier). My wife decided that would be a good time to "go water the plants" and try to hear what was going on. She hears a few words about "custody", but can't really tell what's going on. As she's out there, somebody from one of the cars comes over to talk to her.

Turns out, the couple in that house (who are about 45) are being accused of driving out to Californina, abducting her GRANDMA from a nursing home, bringing her back to Nebraska, and trying to extort money/property out of her. ALL the cars that showed up had family in them, some from up to 150 miles away. They asked my wife if she had seen an old lady going in/out of the house (we haven't), and gave my wife her business card and asked her to follow up if we heard or saw anything. Neighbor lady's parents were in one of the other cars, and as I understand it they actually had power of attorney for the granny.

The best part? The couple across the street are both TEACHERS at the local middle and high school. By all accounts they're upstanding citizens, or at least had been... And it's not like we live in the ghetto or anything. I find it hilarious that they might have abducted a 90 year old woman and are holding her hostage in their basement.

Hey, with all the El Camino fellating that goes on around here, I figured MSPAINT in the subject might attract a little more attention. Guess I need to go back to the Sharkbait school of advertising.

Lucky they are only TEACHERS. If they were a couple of PREACHERS I hate to think what they would do to her.

That must be a new trend:

Police say Gordon Powell coerced the elderly woman, who suffers from dementia, into giving him "power of attorney" over her affairs after befriending her a few years ago when they were neighbors in Ludlow.
