I heard that you can bolt any engine into any subaru body. Exp: 2000-2002 WRX Engine into a 95 impreza.

I understand you can put a 2.2 in if you use the 1.8 intake. I guess there is a sensor or something on the 2.2 intake that requires wiring so it is easier to just use the other manifold. not sure but thats what I read. Should bolt in otherwise and they are cheap and plentiful. 500-1000 depending on year and mileage. Good luck. Let us know how things go with it.

Rags, what are you looking for? If you want power one thing alot of people do is put the 2.2 turbo motor in. That will cost more though and take alot more effort. Maybe you dont mind a lot of work to get what you really want out of your project? Speak to us.

I have a 2.2L engine sittinging at my house, I havn't decided if i want to put that and a turbo or a wrx engine into my car. I they will both bolt straight into a 95 impreza then I will buy it. I'm not worried about the work involved in doing it i just don't want to worrie about trying to make new engine mounts anf having to change the allignment of the drive line and all that jaz. if all the work is in changing computers and maybe a trany then thats cool.

If your going to turbo it and you dont mind spending a little more I recommend buying a turbo 2.2 out of a 91-94 legacy turbo. The block is solid and known as "bullit proof" And while your at it the 5 speed that came with that turbo is a heavy duty unit. Its been said the turbo motor will eat up a non turbo tranny fairly quickly. I found 70K turbo motors online with tranny for around 1500. You are best off getting the wiring harness too.Just my 2 cents worth. Check with the tech forum about the best motor choice. There are some Japanese motors that have more power than our 2.2 turbo. Also I read somewhere that 2.5 heads on a 2.2T will really open them up for more HP. As far as swapping Scube motors I believe they all bolt right in to the mounts and the trans my even be the same for the WRX but I dont know that for sure.

This is making me feel like a 2.2 turbo might be up my alley. 1500 bucks, that's cheap. And it will work.

OK, Here's my question I have a 2002 Outback that the 2.5 engine & transmission just went on (206K). I want to put a 2.2engine & trans mission from my 99 Impreza Outback Sport into 2002 outback will this work & would I have to swap out CPU & TCM as well,as far as I can see all engine & transmission plug ins are the same.

Wow... severe necro. Since you already resurrected it, might as well answer the question.

Yes I can be done. I'm doing a similar swap right now with a 98 OBS and a 00 Foz. Your's should be less of a pain in the ass because both your cars are MAF and you shouldn't have to mess with the harnesses.
