Default what route should I go?

So my car has been out of commision for almost 2 months now. Engine locked up, long story. So now it sits in the local performance shop (GT Motorsports, Rancho Cucamonga, CA), waiting to be fixed. Engine has been yanked and will await an answer sometime this week as to what the cause was.

I've created a budget of about 6k to spend on getting my car running. After some posts on my local chapters boards and talking to the owner of the shop, I now know that 6k will go a long way. I mentioned to the owner that I was thinking of going with a 2.5 short block, but he's telling my I can get just as much power from my 2.0 or even go with a 2.2 for less money. Im not exactly sure what I want to do now.

As for what my goals are, just more reliable power is all. Going for an up/downpipe for sure. Not sure what else. If ya'll was in my boat, how would you spend your 6k? New block, heads, etc..?, Turbo and tuning? Hookers?.

thanks for the input

OEM 257 block that way you will have plenty of money for the hookers.

If your heads are fine leave them, since all you are looking for is more reliable power I would get either a 2.5 short block, or a jdm 2.0 sti short block. both are good to around 400whp.

Hooker does not make headers for you car

Depending on what they find out to be the cause of the engine failure, it could be something in the heads that went, or something in the shortblock.

If it were me, and reliable power was important. I would recomend the STi 2.5 Shortblock, you can get one brand new for pretty cheap. And nothing beats OEM for reliability. I would also get a full Turboback exhaust, some type of EM(you said you have a Stage 1, so you may already have EM), and A up pipe.

After that the rest is up to you. How much power do you want? What do you do with the car? How many miles are on the vehicle?

Let me know what the shop finds out about the engine.
Thanks
Rick

yea, I have a cobb AP and HKS CB. Im leaning towards the 2.5 just for the reliability factor. Car only has 35,000 miles on and its just my weekend car. How much power?..I don't know, 230-240 whp would be nice.

OKay, If it were MY car I would get:

I will list pricing as if you were buying the parts new unless stated otherwise.

Invidia "V2" Downpipe - 271.99
STi TMIC - 250-400 Used
STi "pink" Top Feed Injectors - 599.99
FP16G Turbo - 768.90

I would use the FP16G map from Cobb that you already have on your Accessport. And if there is any money left over I would strongly recomend a Oil Pump, Water pump, Tensioner, Timing Belt and maybe a new clutch.

There are about an endless number of ways you could mod your car with that money, hopefuly this helps you out a bit.
Thanks
Rick

yea, hopefully know more by the end of the week. Basically noticed a knock whilst coming home from dinner with some friends. Got the car off the fwy and the engine siezed, wouldn't start afterwards. Checked oil and it had plenty and was only barely 3k since my last change. So it will be interesting to see what actually happened.
