Default Where were you 5 years ago and has your life changed in your favor?

5 years ago, I had graduated culinary school and was about 4 weeks into my 6 week UNPAID internship working under Pastry Chef Cheryl Rogers and Executive Chef Mark Hosack at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver, WA.

I was living on my dad's couch, getting ready to move in w/ mrs. b84w and was totally broke as a joke. I had no clue that in 5 years I'd be accredited, getting paid well and living in a Seattle high rise.

Weird, life is much better now. After my internship I got hired as the Asst. Pastry Chef, making some retarded low amount of money, literally like $8.00/hr. or something crazy like that. If I had the chance though, I'd do it all over again, without that place I wouldn't have such a strong foundation and would never had made such crazy connections with other people in the industry.

Five years ago, I had just finished my sophomore year of high school and had just gotten my license. I remember spending the whole summer driving around chasing young tail with my buddies. I had just gotten into computers and had taken my first programming class (QBASIC) and right now I am headed into the final year of my Computer Science degree. I'd say my life has changed in my favor as I am headed in the right direction...to India to use my degree!

5 years ago i was an intern at Palm, Inc. (as in the palm pilot pda), halfway through a CS degree at an Ivy.

now i'm generally doing bitchwork as a 3rd year medical student having just recently passed my step 1 boards, but i'm loving it. i definitely like this new path, and don't regret not joining the microsoft hordes as did many of my friends and classmates.

Worked a crappy job and made under $20K a year but I had my own apartment (section 8 housing). Would go out on the weekends with friends and drop whole sheets of acid and wander the streets of portland. Smoked tons of weed.

Now, got a kick ass high paying job. Bought a house and have a fiance. I just installed a new patio too.

Then...
I was a waiter that constantly needed to borrow money from my girlfriend to pay the bills. Took the bus to work.
I rented a 1 bd apartment I shared with her.

Now...
Got a good job, married the girlfreind, bought a house, 2 cars, had a kid.
Life's much better now.

Living at home still, just got my degree, but I was still part of the flying team. I was desining cellsites, and had been a CAD drafter for five years already. I met my future girlfriend in August, and that turned into a four-year relationship. I wasn't where I wanted to be yet though, as I was striving to be an airline pilot. Also, you couldn't wretch the then i-Club from my computer screen. I lived on here, and hung out with the OC and SD guys.

Now....I've come full circle. Moved back home after having lived on my own for four years. Mostly to save money, so I could get my flight training done. But both of my flight schools went bankrupt within four months of each other. Still a CAD designer, but I was designing plumbing for residential homes. My four year relationship came to an end last year, and I started a short, but very intense relationship that ended in adroit disaster. I also hardly ever visit this place. It's not what it used to be. But I still have my Subaru.

Now, I'm at the cusp of what I know will be the best time of my life, as I will ship out to US Army basic training on monday. I will be a Reservist, and I will come back with enough bonus money to get my flight instructor ratings. When the time is right, I will aply for Warrant Officer Flight Training, and I will fly Army helos on the weekend, and commercial aircraft on the weekdays. It's what I've always wanted. So yeah, five years later, and my life is the best it can be...and can only get better.

geezus kryst, did I just spill all that guff out? Digads!

Heh, I was looking at AF too, but they're downsizing. They only take up to 28 1/2, and I'm 29. And they're giving no waivers. But I believe the Army is the best choice for me at this point.

I'd wake up around noon or until it got to hot in my attic bedroom. I'd wake'n'bake, hangout on the couch for a few hours eat, around 4 I'd start drinking and by 10 I was at the bar. Which I wouldn't leave until at least 3am, then go home passout and do it all over again every single day. ~I was sad, but it was fun.

Now, I'm a respectable member of society.

5 years ago I lost everything.

My big 95 year old house.

My fast Saab. The Wife's new explorer.

We both lost our jobs.

So we moved 2300 miles and got new jobs.

Things are better than before they went to ****.
