not too shabby for a p20 exhaust housing..

for reference, an old datalog can be found here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...8&postcount=34

interestingly, the boost comes in at EXACTLY the same rate!

1 bar @ 3075
20psi @ 3280
3.0mafv @ 2784/5.1psi
3.5mafv @ 3027/12.7psi

i guess a bigger tmic doesn't hurt spool so much after all. there is a little advantage to the old run in terms of mafv, but it was a month later in the year and colder. besides back then i only ran 20psi... i have a feeling i'm gonna run out of fuel this winter, at least until i turn up the fire under my walbro's ass.

for even more reference, an old td04 record-breaking spool log: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...2&postcount=18

1 bar @ 2289 (800rpms before the vf23)
3.0mafv @ 2116/10.6psi (600rpms before the vf23)

i must point out it was a LOT colder that day, though.

ken

ps if anyone else has some datalogs of spoolup map/rpm/maf for various turbos, post 'em up.

Ride5000 - Could you post up your setup please. There is a local that I'm helping pull his vf23 and I'm considering giving it a try. I'd just like to hear what injectors you are running and what size IC your using.

Edit: NM Sorry, but i didn't see your web page. Still have a question though.....injectors? are you stock?

Then next would be "You NEED injectors dude"
Ride just points at the Areomotive A1000-6 sitting RIGHT THERE. And
Now tell them how much it cost you to go 12's

~50% of that total cost is represented by the tools which i've collected in order to do all of the ems tuning myself.

while they do not make me "go faster" per se, i counted them anyway.

some of us have never paid anyone a dime to tune our cars. you're not one of us!

Duh I'm an idiot, ignore. It was a 3rd gear hit downhill and is crap compared to other stuff...I don't have a good log to compare yet. False alarm. My 2nd gear logs showed faster boost onset

Thats kind of freakishly similar. I think this is really important to see that the VF22 and the VF23 (or the rest of the VF series for that matter) spool almost exactly the same and the smaller VF stuff is good for that much boost down low (yay P20 housing). I'd like to get some upper RPM stuff to see what kind of MAF volts the 23 and 22 pull. It also shows that maybee P&P the exhaust manifold doesn't do a whole lot for high gear spool where there is enough volume.

My mods btw that really affect this:
Catless uppipe
Catless downpipe
3rd cat pipe (with a cat)
Borla Hush
Larger TMIC (TXS V1)
Stock BCS
No porting or polishing any intake or exhaust equipment, TGVs intact.

No porting or polishing any intake or exhaust equipment, TGVs intact.
i agree that's remarkably similar.

i think it points back to boost threshold/spool being very closely related to hotside configuration, and not very related to cold side. the vf23 and 22 differ only in the compressor which is obviously bigger in the 22's case. i suspect that one thing that hurts my spool up (albeit very slightly) is the gutted oem up pipe. do you have a gutted pipe on the car chris? the reason i think it hurts spool is because it increases the volume of the pre turbo manifold, and this will reduce the amplitude of the peak pressure pulses. these high kinetic energy pulses spool up turbos better than the average flow does.

imo, most porting and polishing and gasket matching becomes increasingly effective as mass flow rates go up, but do not really help spool.

elsanto, there are a couple of other things you can do to help spool, but they will require a retune of your ecutek: 1) wastegate helper spring, and 2) interrupt style boost control solenoid.

both of these modifications ensure that your wastegate remains tightly shut until you reach target boost, which will help spool.

thermal management (ie coating/wrapping) of the preturbo exhaust will help as well.
