Default WOOT OMW to PHNX 8/15

Move date has been finalized.

Probably moving to Goodyear or Avondale<sp?>. I will be keeping my position here in Virginia and working from home 100% of the time via VPN.

It appears that COX is the only cable provider in the area. How reliable is their high speed internet? I am not looking for "My quake game lags" comments. I just need a stable line that stays up M-F durring national business hours. My work depends on me being able to reach out 2500 miles to the servers in northern VA.

Slow at times? No Way.. I have it and its never slow. Very reliable.. Dont get DSL cuz it sux. If you dont mint it, pay the extra for the upgraded cox. Its $49 for regular, and like 65 for the faster stuff.. alot faster and better upload

Considering I work from home, I will get the highest speed possible. Wife also might be doing the same thing.

I think there is a cox business services too...which provides 24/7 instant support, open port ranges, faster rates etc. bit more expensive, but may be worth it.

I have been using Cox for High Speed since '98 or so. Back when it was the @Home network.

I only experience outages maybe a few times a year if that. To be honest I do not remember the last time it wasn't working.

I also VPN across the Cox network on a daily basis with no issues at all.

It should be a good fit.

P.S. welcome to hell...

8 lane cement highways with limited on/off ramps have a posted speed limit of 55 MPH.

Anything over 80 MPH or 20 over the speed limit (example 75 in a 55) is a reckless driving ticket on top of the speeding ticket. This is by law.

Anything over 90 MPH = mandatory jail time. Anything over +25 can land you 1 day in jail for every MPY over the +25 MPH mark.

Officers can post depositions in advance and never show up to trial.

*edit* This being said I am a safe driver. One ticket in 5 years and it was clearly my fault.

On top of the $1-200 in tags and registration, you pay a personal property tax on heach house/boat/car you own. My 2003 WRX costs me about 300 a year on top of the tags, registration, and inspection. The $300 a year is a deal, if the legislature removed the personal property relief act, it would jump to $627 a year.

My current dwelling is a 2 bedroom town house with a finished basement. Fence is falling down, no covered parking, its 30-35 years old and has never been renovated. It resides in an area with MS13 gang activity across the street from what you all would call section 8 housing. Rent is 1400 a month, electricity is 300+ in the summer, car gets broken into monthly.

The current list price for said town house is $275,000.00 and would sell at that price in days. A new 3 bedroom starter house with a single car garage would be in 350 range.

A 12 mile commute with 3.7 miles being on back streets and 8.2 miles being on a tollway 4-5 lanes wide takes 35-45 minutes on a good day.

Sure it gets hot, I was out over Memorial day. I drank a bunch of water and got dark in a few hours. It was comparable to hicking in Australia for 3 months. It's only heat.

I can't wait to get out of HELL.

I too VPN across the Cox network on a daily basis with no issues here either. My VPN I ahve to secure through a server in Modesto CA, so that's about 800 miles. If you go witht the business package you will get a much better upload. The standards I'm getting at home is 6meg up 600b down, that is the standard internet package through cox.

I think you got the up and the down mixed up. The standard is 6Mbps Down and 600Kbps Up.

(The small b denotes bits per second and not bytes, there are 8 bits to the byte)

i never have had too much of a problem, occasionally i have had the node go out in my area, maybe 3 or 4 times in about 2 years or so being here, but it wasnt for too long, also some times the old neighborhoods lines dont do to well with cable internet, so if your moving into a newer neighborhood +1 for you
cox is better than quest fo sho

Welcome. My family live in Avondale, and it's not a bad place to live. Just hope it doesn't get up to 118 with a dewpoint near 70 again. It's hard to get weather worse than that.
