So I have a question/problem... through eBay I bought the Subaru Yakima bike carriers (tire hold type, not fork mounted) for my 2008 WRX using OEM cross bars. On the carriers, the clips that mount to the bars appear to be for a whisp-style bar but it's very loose. Am I missing a rubber insert or anything?

Why would Subaru produce a loose fitting clip on their carrier? Honestly, there's about a half-inch of play all around. Did you guys fill the space with anything?

Please advise...thx

sound like you bought the wrong model, did you check the Yakima catalog for the exact model?

1. it shouldn't have a gap.
2. Don't fill the gap, thats scary lol

I bought the ones listed here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...vip=true&rt=nc

I emailed the seller and he told me they fit the 2010-2013 style OEM bars but that shouldn't make a difference on my 08 since they use the same bars, should it?

Looks like the seller took the product down.
not sure on the different types of bars on different years, but i know that there are about 3 different types of bars (that i know of)
  1. circle
  2. square
  3. and a narrow oval shape turned to its side

If you scroll down the page you'll see it... I have the OEM whisp bars (narrow oval shape turned on its side). I confirmed the bars are the same for 2008-2012... so when I get this product I have a loose fitting clip as pictured here:

My Load Warrior (basket) has the same concept (rubber pieces that fills the gap) its so its universal for the other two types of bars (circle, square) and for a secure fitment.

Actually 08-10 bars are thicker. I guess people complained they were too thick and howled like crazy so they made 2010+ bars thinner. Looks like you have clips for 08 bars.

i checked Yakima and i couldnt find them, and whatever Yakima has on there website is usually what the stores sell, so im not to sure.

First i would would contact the seller, saying there are missing pieces.

but Option B, if you can't find the rubber spacers, would be new mounts

Here is a picture of the hatch fully open and the bike on top. There is still a good inch or two space.

So evidently, this is a Subaru part not a Yakima part.

Evidently, the clips I got were for a Legacy roof setup on an Impreza. The part I need is called a mounting clip. This thread shed some light on the OEM bar changes on the 2008-2012 Impreza bars: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1802373

Now I know I need to buy the clips but I'm confused as to which ones:

E361SXA100
E361SFG000

I'll most likely go to the dealer on Monday and hope they have these in stock so that we can compare and hopefully, walk out a happy camper. Thank you for all of your help .

Does anyone have the Thule "MOAB" basket?

If this basket can be mounted "low profile" without raising it with large feet and cross bars, it would be a no-brainer! I'd buy one today

i have the MOAB and its great. i used U style threaded bolts with a flat plate to bolt on to the cross bars, but fed the cross bars threw the middle-ish of the rack for a very low profile. looks WAAAY better than that to tall crap. and i have made a slightly longer/lower fairing. oh, and the way its put together i cut one whole tear out of the middle, to shorten the over all length to match the roof perfect. mhj
