Sweet! Thanks for all the input guys!

I spent the day looking over both Thule MOAB and Yakima Load Warrior options! As a prior owner, and fan of Thule, I had to go with Yakima this go around.

I bought most of their suggested equipment to run this system on my wagon. I went ahead and skipped on the cross bars for mounting. Lets face it, having the basket 4" off the roof, and 8" high is not necessary, and looks silly.

I'm in the process of my first "project" less than 24 hours into ownership of the car lol - "Operation Low Profile Load Warrior"

Looks like I'm going to bend up some sheet metal "squares" and weld them to the vertical bars. From there I'm going to weld 1-1/8" round bars that the Yakima feet will pickup. Then I'm going to laser cut a custom plastic fairing that will fit all the way down to the roofline.

I'm all ears if anyone has any ideas!

Also going to add some led lighting from www.RigidIndustries.com - Might even flush mount a light bar within the new fairing.......

i have an 05 STi. I have a yakima rack (2 cross bars, and 4 feet) that i want to put on my car, but when I had it on my 05 RS, the paint under the rubber on the feet got pretty scratched up etc. I've seen a few people modify the feet by mounting them to the bolt that run along the roof under the plastic strips.. (kind of the way the newer chassis subarus mount) does anyone have a good link to the modification, and process of going about it? thanks

An easier option would probably be to get a "clear bra" type material and put it on the car where the feet contact the roof. This will prevent that area from getting scratched up.

Here are a couple drawings of the brackets we're going to use for my low profile Yakima setup!

How do you guys like the look of the basket slightly raked towards the front of the car?

I like the clear bra under where the feet sit idea. however i remember the "yakima roof rack mod" was a little lower profile, once installed, you trim a couple inches from the cross bars and it sits nice and low and doesn't stick out too far.. IMO more of a factory appearance. I may do clear bra on those areas for nbow until I hvae time to do the modifcations to the feet. IIRC all you had to do was bend the bottom of the feet and drill two hole in each one. but I would love step by step instructions.

My Yakima basket case low pro rack just came in the mail. Looks great but the clips won't fit my OEM bars. Gotta buy some Yakima mighty mounts I guess. OR....I could make my own. Any input?

finally found the link i was talking about. to modify the akima racks so they dont scratch up your paint where the feet sit. they bolt down to the bolt under the rain gutters on the roof. definately going to modify mine like this, as the roof of my RS was trashed after a few road trips.

So, I just picked up a Yakima Copperhead bike tray for my wagon and it hits the spoiler and only opens part way because of that. Anyone have any potential fixes for the issue?

Yakima bike rack VS garage door that decided to come back down while I was pulling in...

Guess who won...
