love the look, gonna get a custom vinyl made for the fairing. inspired by someone else on the forums, gonna do black, white, blue digital camo, think it will look sick.

Did you have any difficultly installing the oem crossbars? I'm having issues with the T-bolt.

It can be difficult to line up with the hole if you're doing it for the first time. Should screw right in when lined up correctly.

I just ordered one of these to put on my square Thule bars:

http://yakima.com/shop/cargo/cargo-boxes/skybox-16

My goal was to get the largest box my Impreza hatchback could carry. And I want it to be tall enough to hold carry-on sized luggage.

I'll post pics after I receive and install it.

yup, exactly. got bored and threw it on since i'm just absolutely itching for snowfall.. but of course, not for at least 2 months.

it fits 3 boards no problem, and 4 if all bindings will be nice and play tetris.

thank god it's a rare occurrence that i take 3 other people up with me

Exactly.

I drive the economy car in the household, and my wife drives the Honda Odyssey barge. I wanted the largest box my Impreza could carry, which will also (obviously) fit on the Odyssey. I also selected Thule Crossroad 450 feet with square bars, which is also compatible with both my Impreza and her Odyssey.

My wife's next car (within the next 1-2 years) will be smaller than the Odyssey, but probably larger than my Impreza (I'm thinking something more like a CR-V or Forester or RAV4), and I'll expect that car to carry this box too (and hopefully the same bars/feet too, if the rails are compatible).

Just looking for maximum flexibility between my Impreza and my wife's current and future car, whatever that is.

I hear that an updated Forester will be introduced in 2013. I'll be waiting to see what Subaru does to that model before deciding which CUV to buy.

i run the thule ascent 1600 box. Thats on the factory bars from Europe which a bit narrower than the aftermarket stuff. (on 2006 wrx)

have to set it all the way forward to clear the STi spoiler. and it almost reaches as far a the front of the windshield.

I fit 4 boards and 4 sets of boots, helmets, gloves, gear, etc.

^^ Yes, I've read on this forum that the Yakima Skybox 16 is the same, in that it must be mounted as far forward as possible in order to raise the hatch.

I'm sure it will look a lot like this when it's installed:

Funny you posted that. My friend just sent me that pic too.

Due to the design of this box (the mounting points inside), I can't really push it all the way forward.. so I used 3M foam adhesive on the rear of the box.. sigh. But it's either that or I sell it..

Fail.
Are you talking about the part that goes on the bars that attaches the actual bike/kayak/ski racks? if so those are a separate part.

Found a great deal locally on these Yakima crossbars, towers, and locks a few days ago, and threw them on the car to see what they'd look like. I still need to buy a fairing to get rid of wind noise, and get a bike attachment to carry around my bike, since that was the purpose of buying the rack in the first place..

Quick pic I snapped in the driveway.

Also, anybody have experience with the Yakima Viper bike attachment? It looks like it'd fit my needs well.

I've got the Copperhead, which is the handicapped cousin of the Viper, and it holds my bike just fine. I use it daily to take my bike to and from campus and I bike around from there. The Viper is a little more user friendly than the Copperhead, so I would imagine it'll work out nicely.

Thanks Steve

If the Copperhead is a little cheaper, and still works well, I may just go with that one.
