Yeah oem ones you just have to screw down so their easy to steal. They dont look that sturdy either.

I am waiting for my 2nd pair of clips. Anyone know what i should use to retouch up the paint?

if someone wants your roof rack, they will steal it. ive read plenty of stories about quality "secure" racks being ripped off with a crowbar and damaging your roof. id almost want something thats easier to take, maybe there would be less collateral damage.

yeah easier to take but do you have an option?

sorry wherever your going, i wouldn't want to be there.

anyways WOW fail me. my snowboard rack only 1 lock turns the 2nd one doesn't. WD40'd it and pliers wouldn't turn...... (key in also). changed to another core and still wouldn't turn original also.... frustrated

I've heard this argument before, and it always cracks me up. This is when I say that you should also leave your car doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition so that nobody has to break you windows or damage your ignition while they hot wire the car before stealing it.

Don't be silly. Yes, if someone is really determined, they can steal anything. But a secure rack will deter the more casual thief who doesn't want to take that much time or make that much noise.

stealing a roof rack vs stealing a car is a lot different. one is a felony that will send you to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. i know plenty of people that will leave their doors unlocked because they have nothing of value in the car and they would rather have a potential thief look around, realize theres nothing inside and then leave. then they dont have to pay several hundred dollars to fix a broken window. obviously they dont leave their keys in the ignition.

subaru crossbars: $160
yakima: $315
thule: $365-425

seems like if my subaru bars got stolen it would suck, but it wouldnt suck as much as getting the higher end aftermarket ones stolen. unless i found an awesome used deal for one of them.

I've had roof racks on my cars for 17 years now, living in apartments and parking in places that would be easy to tamper with and attempt to steal. I've never once had anything stolen or even any signs of attempts to steal my racks. My new trays are a bit "flashier" being the RockyMounts Pitchfork Blue, maybe they'd draw a bit more attention, but I'm still not too concerned about it.

Did a little searching first, didn't find anything quick and I don't want to read all 200 pages of the thread.
Anyone know if the Yakima Raptor Aero bike mount will work with the OEM crossbars? I'm just starting to get into biking and thinking about getting a roof rack.

I've got a 2011 WRX 5 door, I'll take any quick pointers or links to where I can read up. Thanks

Go to their website and check out your car model.

Might have to just get clips if your going to buy a used roof rack or new or which ever.

i am still workin on mine.

Hey guys just wanted to let you know that the universal inno fairing is on sale for a decent price. Autoanything.com has it for $71.65 with free shipping, but when you enter the promo code CAEA3 it drops it to $64.49. Just a heads up if anyone was out there looking. I couldn't find a much better price anywhere else. =]

If you dont want to use clips.

Get the oem where it bolts down with screws if your car come with those mounts or drill a hole in your rubber.

There isnt any other way. They give you velcro strips for your clips so they dont scratch up your car or electric tape. Hope my reply helps you a little

Ken,

there ar a couple threads, and bunch of info in this one in regards to factory fit crossbars for the 02-06 impreza. your two options are both going to need to be imported though, as they are not available in the US. there is a post with some more info, try searching CHEAM motors. that is the name of the dealership in england everyone was using a while back to import cross bars. Not cheap, and takes a little effort to install.

There are also a couple that went custom route, but that is an even more involved install.

You guys are lucky, you have threaded holes in the roof from the factory. Us 02-07 guys have to retrofit a bracket to be able to bolt a rack on like the newer generation imprezas.

i think the 02-06 factory rack mounts better than teh new rack. The new rack looks nicer for sure, but the 02-06 rack doesnt sit on foot pads on the paint. The feet actually slip into the gutter. So even if you leave the rack on for a few weeks and take it off, there are no dirt marks or discoloration in the paint.

You're talking about the EDM factory racks? They never made OEM racks for the 02-07 that didn't sit on the paint.

This is a bad pic (too far away), but this is what the EDM ones look like.

You don't need to use clips for your subie. You guys have threaded holes under the little doors on the roof. You should be able to use either the OEM Subaru one or the Yakima Control Towers with Landing Pad #11.

I am talking about the EDM racks. I can't see the picture at work, but mine only touch paint once they slide into the rain gutter. there is no foot pad that rests on top of the gutter and weather stripping. I ll have ot take a picture this weekend and post it. I have only seen one other picture of it posted on this forum.

Actually i found this thread with pictures

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1486610

Those are what I have EDM, Mountblanc cross bars.
They have a piece that mounts to the factory mounting tabs under the weather stripping, and then the towers clip on and off in a few seconds

Yea I posted a similar pic. I don't know if Cheam Motors in the UK sell them anymore. That's where I got mine a few years ago, then I ended up selling it.

i can see the picture at home now. I think the EDM rack is the best for the 02-06, sits a little high, but cleanest setup, and strongest rated too i think.
