This may sound stupid... But wouldn't the fairing cause more drag, more wind noise, and more aggravation. Why install one in the first place? What am I missing?

That would probably be better answered by someone with a degree in aerodynamics but I imagine it directs the air over the bars/whatever is on top as opposed to just hitting the bars. Seems like a decent guess.

I can answer 3 out of 5. I had my bars on for a couple days without a fairing and it was noisy. The fairing pretty much stopped the noise.

There is no aggravation.

Install it because it works and it looks really nice. IMO the bars look fugly without the fairing.

Just got my roof rack installed:

Couple of things:

-I tried using the lamin-x. I hated that I could see it. So, to avoid the black marks I had when I initially put the rack on the first time, I wrapped the roof rack bases with gorilla tape(black). No scuffs now

-I painted my racks with truckbed spray. Turned out great. The Yakima Bowdowns tore the paint I applied up after I tightened them down; however, I don't plan on removing them.

-I wish they made the bolts longer to put my rack on. Sometimes, Its a bitch to find the hole(that's what she said)

REI had their used gear sale yesterday, this box was put on the car once and they didnt like so they took it back. Means I got an awesome deal on it. Just building up that dividend for next year. Now the real question, how you guys store these? Any pics? I think Im just going to hang it from the ceiling in the garage.

You could get the sks lock core housing. It just prevents people from unscrewing the nuts on the mounts.

Looks great, but keep an eye out for overloading that rear basket. tongue weight != basket weight.

I'm not sure if he'll reply back soon, but here's his build.

I am thinking about buying this for my 2012 WRX sedan but I think the crossbar spacing is a little too long for this basket (going by the link you provided). What's the spacing on your hatch and did you run into any problems installing?

The spacing is the same for our cars. and you are 100% correct. But the fix was beyond simple. I used the stock mounting points for the brackets on the back bars. For the front only had to drill and extra hole (two if you count both sides) and use another mounting hole already provided.

It moved the rack back 1 inch and lined up perfectly with the oem bars. It also, by fluke, now follows the lines of my faring making for a better look.

I will add pics tomorrow to illustrate my description.
