You can get them used in this forums classifieds for a pretty good price...remember to get some pics for the condition they are in first though. There is always someone selling racks...but you just have to wait for a good deal to pop up.

Yeah, I tried that, but the 2 people in NESIC had sold theirs already, and no more came up in a week and a hlaf, and the only set in the regular classifieds was in NJ and that guy didn't want to pay shipping (even though I offered $50 over what he wanted to cover it)... So yeah if you're patiend you'll get them for ~$200 maybe even with some extra attachments, but you have to be willing to wait...

If you look online there are a bunch of places that all offer the same or very similar price/deal. I went to 3 different online sites from all the recomended sites everyone says they like and what I wanted priced out to be +-$10 at all 3, so I went with the site I liked the best personally. Seems like -10% and free shipping is pretty standard, so just make sure they aren't in your state so you can avoid tax.

Also you have to pick between THULE and Yakima which are the 2 big names guys and there are some other smaller companies too that are decent (from what I've read). I've been a THULE guy my whole life for the simple fact their bars are square. I put a lot of odd stuff on my roof (boxes, boats, etc) and I like the fact there is more contact area with the square bars. Yakima does round bars with are nice because you can rotate you ski racks to be flat when they are empty for less resistance. Both are nice for different reasons, so just think about what you'll be doing with them.

Good Luck!

My camera is being fixed by Canon as we speak. When I get it back, I'll take pics of my setup. I installed my Yakima gear (two Steelheads) a few weeks back to the OEM mounting points beneath the weatherstripping per the thread in the Interior & Exterior Mod Forum. It turned out amazingly well. The thing is rock solid

To be honest, I think my Subie looks better with all this Yakima stuff on it from certain angles. Don't ask me why - it just looks sleek and mean at the same time.

On another note: To those of you transporting bikes with your racks, has anyone tried the Yakima Wheel Forks? I'm thinking about purchasing a pair, but was wondering how well they worked. I'm also afraid with me being 5'5, that it would require me to use a step stool or something to that extent to mount the wheel on there. Mounting the bikes to Steelheads have been straightforward and easy - with me being on my tiptoes at times.

BTW - all the pics look great, can't wait to add mine to this thread

I pushed the whole rack forward this year because I think it looks better.... I had the car repainted with the black roof and the gold pearl in the white.

Yeah, looks great, but unfortunately I won't be able to do that to mine.
I need to put a boat on my roof that weight ~140lbs. If you feel the roof where you have to put the supports for that instal it's not as solid at the edge it. I can point load the edge with ~100lbs and it's solid, but in where the feet go for the better looking version about 25lbs will deflect the inside edge of the roof. I think it will be fine for normal loads, but since I'm overloading the rack/roof I need it to be in the strongest place possible...

Hank, I also agree that the car actually looks better from certain angles with racks.

I wanna see some boxes! Whose go them on a SEDAN? I will this winter.

Stolen from the RS25 for sale post on it. I should have bought it.
I was just thinking about getting a similar rack for my MY02 WRX sedan. Yakima makes one called the Warrior.

It seems silly but I love it!

I'll have to get some shots of my RS w/ the rack up top. I have 2 Thule trays on some ****ty brand square crossbars and feet (It was only $50 for the bars and feet used.. couldn't pass it up). My Thule bike trays are different as I used a fork mount on my old Specialized Rockhopper. The new bike (Cannondale Scalpel) wouldn't work w/ the fork mount because of the Lefty so I went w/ a bigmouth. It is SOOOO much more stable than the forkmount. It's a lot easier to load as well.

My next car will be a wagon/hatchback and have a hitch/hitchmount though.

So do mudflaps bigger than the ones on my dads Tacoma, but at least theyre functional. Slightly off topic, I'm waiting until I hunt down an RS coupe rear spoiler before I put them on, the car looks out of proportion wingless with huge mudflaps.

Great pics. The 06s look so much better stock than the 02~05s with the 17s, brakes, and better gray color... How much weight is on your rack there? ~25lbs per bike, how much for each kayak?
