Default Why do the radio and navigation suck so badly?

Am I the only one that thinks that the radio in the B9 with nav sucks? Some simple observations:

No pause or stop button for cd or mp3

Can't browse track names, only up or down in tracks and folders

Only shows first 20 characters of track name, doesn't show artist or song name

Navigation is a nightmare to operate, simple things like planning a route are almost impossible

Maps are terribly outdated, Subaru says wait till Q1 2007 for an update

Random play turns off radio is turned off, I feel that it should just remember that setting

No aux input, I know the MY07 has it, but I really want it on my 06 too, the B9 is still so rare that no other firms have made a line-in interface either.

(sorry, posting this in pieces since the board kept claiming I had a URL in my post when none was there)

I did manage to install a great Bluetooth carkit, but the stupid phone mute wire reboots the entire nav system meaning that every time I made a call I'd have to press the idiot agree on the disclaimer, so now I manually turn the volume down.

All in all I am terribly annoyed that we spent so much on the navigation upgrade when I should have just purchased a standalone unit instead. The entire radio system seems like a really bad pick by Subaru, mainly based off old 2004 Kenwood hardware.

And of course, with the nice designer dash it is impossible to add a third party radio nav unit.

The Power button pauses/stops it...fades in and out too!

The "Audio" button allows scrolling of the MP3 track filenames.

If you have the Rear Seat Entertainment system, there is an Aux input in the back. A bit of a pain I know, but it is there.

As a musician with a good set of ears (rock/fusion/jazz), I feel the stereo upgrade in the Ltd version is pretty good. Adequate power @ 180 Watts RMS, clears highs, punchy bass, even mids. My only gripe is that the front door panels resonate on certain low-mid frequencies.

YMMV...Joe

Yes, and it also turns off "randomize" again

But still only the first 20 characters of the trackname, why couldn't they show the ID3 tag like any decent radio?

Sadly we didn't get that option, we did go LTD but I didn't feel the DVD player was worth the money, had I known about the line in I may have done it, it just annoys me there is no solution out there yet, I also have a Benz truck and there have to be at least 100 different solutions for line-in and ipod on that from third parties...

I agree; audio itself is pretty good, some time soon I'm going to Dynamat my doors, I suspect that'll make them sound much better.

Yeah, but I wouldn't have puchased anything else just because of the radio, the nav I should have skipped... I'm just annoyed they didn't go with something better...

Does anyone know if the MY07 radio is improved much?

I did briefly listen to the radio in the '07 I test drove, but it is hard to tell unless you take a bit of time and listen to music that you're familiar with. So....

I'll let you know in about a month when my '07 gets here from the factory.
