That's what I'm planning. Last time I wen was pretty disappointing: I picked up a nail on my first run and by the time I got back to the track after fixing the tire, I only had time for one more run. I wanna get a few decent runs out of her this time.

Looks like I might be able to make this one. Have been trying to get out to one of the mini meets but the timing has been bad.

Can someone answer the following:

1) How late do the drags go?
2) Do they strictly enforce the 13.99/12.99 ET rules?
3) Does anyone have a spare helmet they could loan (L/XL)? Mine's back in CA
4) How many runs would you be able to click off from 8PM-close?
5) Do they have 101 unleaded?

I guess last week there weren't that many cars so I was able to do a run every hour. I missed the one at 6pm, but did 4 runs from 7pm to 10pm--and then because a lot of cars had left already, I did one more at 10:20pm before they closed the track--a total of 5 runs.

1 - they close at 11pm, local noise bylaw.

2 - Depends. You can get away with it at least once. Any more then that and you *could* get kicked out. I'd say you have a 50/50 chance from what I've seen/heard in the past.

3 - I'd lend you my helmet (I'll be running domestic anyways), but I think it's a small, maybe a medium.

4 - That time of night is usually when you can get the most runs in, alot of people come early, do a couple runs, then head out about this time or a touch later. I'd guess at least 3 to 4 if there are no interruptions on the track. Keep in mind, you have to get through tech before it gets too dark, I think 8pm might be pushing it a little. Also, they only allow 250 cars in on any given night. If they have already reached that, you'll be SOL.

5 - They have a truck in the pits that will sell you some unleaded race gas. I can't remember if it's 101 or 110, but it's up there. However, the guy doesn't stick around all night, he usually only stays until shortly after tech closes. So if you only get there at 8pm, you might be SOL here too.

Durring the 4th i got a total of 3 runs due to oil downs and a crash plus they had the max limit of cars that weekend.
the Gas is for VP race fuels and they carry the full line
other than a helmet you should be find if your just in the 12 sec range
I dont think i will come out this friday. im going to wait to get some mods before i make any more runs. But if we get a good list of people comming I might come out to watch.

I was checking out some of the rulres...

1. 12.99 or quicker requires a driveshaft loop? What the hell is that?
2. 11.99 requires an SFI "jacket"? What the hell is that? A shortened form of a full race suit where only the upperbody is covered? lol

Both rules are common at NHRA sites.

Driveshaft loop is an aux backup conection between the U-Joint connectors in the event the driveshaft fails under load. Prevents the driveshaft from dropping and causing a serious accident. I'm guessing the jacket is a flame retardant jacket (could be wrong). I've not seen an 11.xx yet, so I don't really worry about that one. The DSL, I'm a little concerned about in the event I get 1/2 way decent launch. Last corrected time for me at altitude was about 12.8 with a 1.99 60'.

Yeah, the jacket is flame retardant, and if you want to see a DS loop, I have one on my mustang - if you want to check it out, I'll jack it up for you between runs. But it's literally just a loop around the driveshaft.

Hmmm... seems like some hokey rules if u ask me... I guess they have to assume the worst case scenario of most people "building" their cars to run those times... but for a car that runs 12.99 or better stock (some Porsches, Corvettes, Vipers, etc.) from the factory, one would think those get an exemption. The driveshafts have obviously been tested and built to withstand a "3-5 year warranty"... our STI's are supposed to run 13.2 stock so that is not far off from 12.99... having to have a loop for our cars seems silly.

How hard is it to install one of these loops? Cost?

OH, and if the driveshaft drops and you're the only car on the track (besides the opponent in the other lane) how is it supposed to cause a "serious" accident?

if you have to pay more then $100 to get a D/S loop and have it installed, you are getting ripped off.

As for your second question, picture a pole vaulter, now imagine that you are going down the track at 160kph, and your driveshaft becomes the pole vault. If the front of your driveshaft snaps, it will dig into the ground and you WILL flip. A helmet isn't going to save you with that kind of carnage. It may be rare, but it has happened enough for the NHRA to put that rule in place. At 12.99 it's probably overkill, but for $100, it's cheap insurance for any car that has some go.
