engine build up questions
well i did a search and found dribs anddrabsof info.....but not totally what i was looking for.....
heres my situation,
i just pretty much killed the motor in my 03 rs, water is to blame as well as the torrential 5 mins of blinding rain we got on sunday.....neway, i dont want to get rid of the car i want to build it, so heres my plan
im going to build a full motor and trans out of the car and drop it in when its finished, now, as we all know the rs is a na motor, and i have a slushbox....im planning on building a turbo motor and going with a built 5spd or a sti 6spd....
now heres the questions.....
ive been looking around and have pretty much narrowed it down on what shortblock im looking at, axis stage 1, now they make a fully closed deck 2.2l as well as the 2.5 liter block, which would i be better off going with keeping in mind i have no intentions of dragging the car at all....setting it up for auto-x and the occasional road course, and also this will be my daily driver.....
now after narrowing down the shortblock, ive pretty much decided to go with sti 2.5l heads, will it be safe to run stock 2.5l heads on the stage 1 shortblock or should i look at something else.
now for the trans i know this is in the wrong forum but there should be someone who can say something.....5spd with gears or stock 6spd?
also a big thing im going to encounter is the wiring harness....i cant use mine or can i? will i be able to use a sti harness for the engine and trans?
after all of this i have to decide on a turbo, im kinda leaning towards a 20g, seeing as though it spools pretty much the same as the vf39, im looking for response here and an even powerband, dont need a topend killer.
engine mgmt wise im probably looking at a utec.....im thinking of a hydra or haltec but am undecided on this at this time.
all your help is greatly appreciated, and i thank you for your input in advance, oh and please dont post that its gonna be expensive and i should just get an sti, i know its not going to be cheap, i want something for me that isnt just another sti....thats why ive decided on this route.....
