Cool Just test drove the very 1st OEM turbo Honda, the future is bright!

In my opinion, the best car engineering company in the world is Honda, but up until the RDX, they all had super weak low end torque high revving motor that are only good on the track.

History is changing with the Acura RDX, the 1st factory Turbo Honda, with SH-AWD no less.

Just got back from the Acura dealer not too long ago, they happen to have a RDX introduction party this evening, I guess the RDX just arrived. I test drove the RDX.

The car weight 3924 lbs, with 240 HP/260 lb-ft, it is expected to be slow. The thing I want to check out is the response of the turbo, since it is Honda's very 1st turbo motor and with the variable flow turbine inlet. I am both excited and a bit disappointed at the same time, excited because FINALLY there is a Honda motor that has some kicks at the low end, it is the most torquey Honda motor in history, and I have driven all the hottest Hondas in the world, this engine kicks harder down low then the NSX's motor, and it should as it makes more peak torque lower in the rpm range. Disappointed because the variable flow turbine inlet didn't seem to help response much. It got about the same response as the 2.0L WRX motor, but the WRX just got a regular old turbo, no fancy variable anything, and the RDX motor is 0.3L bigger with variable valve timing, so I am disappointed in that sense.

But all in all, just the fact that a Honda came stock with a turbo and AWD is very exciting to me and very good news.

The rumor on the street is the next TSX sedan gonna come with this turbo motor and SH-AWD. Imagine the next TSX that weight 3400 lbs, with the boost turn up from the RDX's 13.5 psi to around 16 psi to make 280 HP/300 lb-ft, with SH-AWD. It will give the EVO/STi/Legacy Spec-B a good challenge. But Honda has much higher quality compare to Subaru and Mitsu.

I am looking forward to which car Honda will stick a turbo on with SH-AWD.

Funny... Honda's been using factory turbo charged 4-cylinders for a few years now...

In fact, you can buy one tomorrow, if you wish!

Obviously better than mitsu... but I wouldn't say "quality" is any better than Subaru...

Subaru won MANY MANY awards last year for reliability and safety in almost their entire line-up...

But at the end of the day, if you buy a Honda you will be labelled as one of those Honda owners.

I love my STi and all, and I am not a Subie hater.

But when it comes to build quality and reliability, Honda is way ahead of Subaru.

why?
how many 24 hours of lemans winners has ferrari built?
now thats what I'm talking about, durability for 24 hours
that, to me, is the mark of the best engineering in the world.

Agreed.

FXT is way faster and way cheaper, 2 different market really.

FXT is a tall wagon, RDX is a small SUV. Apple to orange.
