Question i need to make a descison quick, GT25 or....

Hey everyone, I am a little indescicive on this one:
My friend who bought his impreza last week told me that the guy at the dealership has a japanese WRX engine in his basement! He wants to sell it quick for 2000$ CDN. I don't know the mileage on it yet but I wll find out. The guy gets them through his friend in place called Granby (1hr outside montreal). The guy really needs the money so thats why he is selling it. Its either a Japanese WRX engine or a GT25 turbo kit. Please help me on this one guys/gals! Thanks in advance everyone!

Hey whats up, it me louis. For 2000 cdn. it's probably not an sti engine. Doesn't mean it's not fast though. It's also probably not a new 280ps non sti wrx engine. It is probably an older lower hp engine, say a '94 or thereabouts with a good amount of miles. Or it could be a newer engine that dosn't work, or is missing alot of pieces to make it work. Or it could be a great deal. It's a real crapshoot. With the turbo kit you know your engine, what wrong with it, how its been treated etc. You take responsibility and you will have some unexpected cost but it won't have the potential for any really high unexpected costs. But with the engine, you might end up needing expensive parts, or in 5000 miles having it die on you, and not know why. Try to get the history on it, that would help, and try to post some markings on the engine. Serial numbers, or descriptions of objects, or even pics. Generally people here can help with the identification of what year engine it is, etc. I would go with turbo, but that doesn't mean the engine couldn't work at and be cheaper, it might just be harder, more work, and more troublesome to accomplish this. Im sure others can give you more specific help. hope this helps a little though.

Thanks for the reply louis! I am not about to jump into this without finding out everything I can about this engine, i am just a little curious as to weather i should persue this. Is not an sti engine, he told me that, but I am still curious as to why its so cheap and weather its worth my time. I will try to get as much information I can about it, I only found out about this at 1 am this morning at a club when I saw my buddy, he's checking into it for me. Thanks man. Anyone else?

It's good to see your pursuing the idea. It could be very sweet, reliable power. Let us know what you find out. Good luck.
