My apologies for the earlier post. The pictures shown are from inside the engine bay of a 1999 Subaru Impreza and I need the following questions answered:

In the first picture, what is the name of the component circled in red and what does it do? This is located on the front of the driverís side strut tower.

In the second picture, what is the purpose of the electrical connection on what appears to be the AC systemís dryer, and what does it control.

Thanks!

in the first pic, that red circled thing should be the resistor for the DRL's... try unplugging it and see if your daytime lights go out... in my car - an 02 - that's what it was for... i just unplugged it b/c i didn't like the DRL's

edit - dont you mean the passenger side strut tower?
edit#2 - 2nd picky no worky

You can clearly see in that picture that his car has no MAF. The '99 is a MAP based car. Unless, I am mistaken, the part that is circled is the "dropping resistor" which is a component that is part of an automatic transmission, and has nothing to do with the engine at all...

Thanks for all the helpful responses.

With regards to the second picture, I was able to find out that it was the pressure switch for the air-conditioning dryer.
