The added HP should easily compensate for the extra porkiness assuming the weight difference is not that large.

Not if history is any indication...

E30 M3
2735 lbs

E36 M3
3250 lbs

E46 M3
3415 lbs

V8, the car appears to be slightly longer...bloat, bloat, bloat.

As an owner of an E46, I already feel that the car is too heavy.
