Default How did I miss "The Wire" for so long?

I watched a couple of the behind the scenes shows about the upcoming season of The Wire last week. I was very intruigued and then watched the finale of season #3 the other night. Even unable to follow a lot of things, I still like it A LOT. It seems like season 4 is going to be a lot different. Should I bother to watch all the season 3 episodes before the new season starts???

Yes, I know there are other threads re: The Wire.

Yes you should watch them. It will give you the background information on the main cast and how they got to where they are (beginning of new season). PLus its a great show so watch them if you can.

Great show. You can sort of catch on to the story after a while, but from beginning to end (thus far), it's well worth the rentals.

BTW, there's one episode (either last year or the year before) where Jimmy goes into a brothel, and pretends to be a British guy. It thought his accent was horrible. So bad, it made me laugh. Then I found out that Domonick West (the actor who plays Det. Jimmy McNaulty) is really British and talks like that.

Season 1 was great. Season 2 was pretty good. Season 3 DVDs are waiting for the wife to get home from a trip.

I don't have HBO anymore so I have to wait for the DVD releases.

Awesome show...actually IMHO the best HBO produced show out, even better season for season than The Sopranos or Deadwood, and thats saying something.
Of course they gets no where near the credit as those other two shows.
Run a search on my name and 'the wire' as I posted a thread about this last year.

The Wire owns and is pretty much true to real world as well.

I had heard and read good things about it before, and now seeing it I can't believe I've never checked it out before. It reminds me of a better, more accurate Homicide: Life on the Street which was also set in Charm City. That was one of my favorite series ever. I am going to get the season 3 DVDs.

I had never heard of the show back in 03, when I went to Boston Invasion. On the train ride home I picked up a family in NY sitting in my "booth". A few minutes of convo and I discovered the guy was an actor on the show. I think he only lasted one season. It was a black guy who always wears reading glasses, he was a captain or something.

4x4,

The consistent glasses wearer of the show is 'Stringer Bell' but he's lasted all the way into current.
He's the man in the show and a good actor as well as per his other stuff.

No clue then...in their private lives anyone of the crew could be glasses wearers.

Here is a link toward pics of the cast & crew (major players not one timers and such); http://www.hbo.com/thewire/cast/index.shtml#crew

I think his name was Clark.

Clarke Peters. That was him. In the pic you can see the 1/2 glasses around his neck.

Oh yeah...the detective.
He's cool on the show and thankfully is still around.

Can't wait for the new season. My wife is stoked too, we borrowed the DVD's last winter when we had the flu and watched them all day.

+1 best show ever.

Heads up: BET starts playing season 1 of The Wire on Wednesday. They're going to play all 50 episodes. Good for those that don't have HBO.

Set your Tivos.

Nice, this is the best HBO original show yet. It beats OZ, Sopranos, Carnivale & Deadwood.

I been looking to download (umm I mean buy) all the seasons. I have seen most of the shows but for about a year I didn't have HBO so I missed a bunch too.

FYI: The DVD box set of seasons 1-3 is like $180... ya start checking torrents.

Wow, missed the date on the thread. But while we are on the subject, my favorite character was that dude who had his on corner and refused to be with marlo (i forget his name right now). Bald headed black dude (doesn't mean much )
