Default cost of 15K service

is $175 normal for the cost of the 15k service. an oil change i can see paying for but the other maintence should be covered under the warranty.

Maintenance is not covered under Subaru's warranty. Defects in manufacturing are covered.

Default Sounds Too Spendy

I don't think there is anything that needs adjusting or replacing at 15K. I think I just had an oil change. I heard that 30K can run up to $300. Ask the dealer what exactly they plan to do and check your maintenence schedule in your manual to see if it jives.

Yeah, way too much money. All they do is an oil change and check things. Not worth it, IMO. It's in your manual what they do, so if you can handle it, just do it yourself.

just ask for the maintenance list....it tells what exactly they do at what mileage....30k was something like spark plugs, oil change, belt tension, compression check, check and lube suspension fittings, check lines, etc, etc...stuff that will never ever ever going to need to cost 300 bucks....my dealership wanted 275 for the 15k, I was like, riiiiight, I gottta go.....got the list and did it myself.

One thing to remember is that if YOU do all of your maintance your local Soob dealer will not be quite so ready to go to bat for you if something bad actually happens during or after your actual warrenty.
I have done ALL services on my 92 Mercury, up to and including replacing struts and rotors. I have done all oil changes for my Soob including switching out the rear diff to Mobil Syn. But I am leaning to having my local dealer do the 15k and the 30k "check up" I know that I can/could do them but for the price of having Morries do it I look at it as cheap insurance against any bad mojo happening later. ie. after 36k or 3 years.
I was in my service center and they were talking about a customer that needed to have her head gaskets replaced. One of the questions that came up was..."did she have her 30k service done at our shop?". When the answer was "no" the service manager pretty much concluded that they would do what the bare minimum was and end it at that.
I got the distinct feeling that if she had done her major milage checks there the manager would have been more willing to not worry about the car being out of warrenty by xxxx miles.
I have not convinced myself that I will pay for the 15k yet but I am leaning that way.

I am not saying what the service manager did/said was wrong or right. You just have to think about it from a viewpoint of the dealer. Remember they do not make the same amount of money when serviceing a problem under warrenty vs. the same problem on a 6 year old car.

That's right as far as a 15k goes you get a air filter fuel cleaner carriage lube and oil change. And as far as being more willing to warranty something if we do your service then yes we are.

By the way, my 15,000 inspection/service found the brake pads on my WRX worn down to 2 mm in front, 3mm rear- guess what , they're covered under warranty!
So I figure the almost $200 it cost me still isn't such a bad deal, but 175 would have been better
