Default Will the VIN tell you if certain option came with the car?

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering if some part of the VIN would indicate if the car came with a certain option from the factory. For instance a short shift kit, or auto dimming mirror, etc.

Thanks!

I would imagine its possible. Have you called a service or parts department with the VIN to find out for sure? I've run VIN many times on Subarus but I have never looked for installed from the factory options before.

A Subaru dealer can tell you which factory- and port-installed accessories were installed.

Send me the last 8 digits of your VIN and your e-mail and I'll send you the build sheet for your car. It includes all the factory options, build date, etc.

It wont tell you things like short shifter, i wouldn't think. That kinda stuff is *usually* put on at the dealer, and its not like they are going to change the VIN after they do that.
