Default Body/paint wanrranty question? please help!

Hello,

I have a 2006 WRX; it is about 8 months old with 13,000 miles. This is my daily driver, i drive it allot. I am the type of owner that takes exceptional care of the car, exterior, interior, maintenance and performance. I have come to notice a couple of things wrong with my paint.... First off, when i wash and dry the car, i can notice that my bumper has a different tone black then the rest of the car, it looks a bit brownish. Also, i have a billion of tiny paint chips all over the bumper and some on the hood as well. Paint seams to be too thin, and anything hitting it can chip it. My question is.... Do you thin i could take it to have my bumper repainted through my warranty?

Please let me know if this is a realistic action i could take. I am very disappointed with the paint on my car, i have had it for only 8 months and it looks 2 years old already.

Thank you for your help.

Sorry to hear about your paint issues balex. That brownish tone on your bumper's paint is from the infamous 'orange peel' - basically as the thin layer of clearcoat and paint wears away, an orangish tint comes through (appearance wise, it looks kinda like the initial stages of rust on metal).

Not sure if your warranty covers this or not. Most people who complain about orange peel have black Imprezas as this color really makes it stand out. It's least noticeable on a red Impreza.

Btw, your stage 3 WRX is SICK!!!!1!!!

Orange peel actually refers to the orange-peel like texture of most factory paint jobs (on any car color). It is most noticeable under fluorescent light, and just looks textured and not smooth like glass. If you wet sand the clear and buff it out, it removes the orange-peel texture. This is what most shops do for custom paint jobs. Orange peel is generally expected on factory cars, but has nothing to do with an orange-ish color.

As for the paint ships, I don't think the warranty covers it. Subarus are known for having very thin paint, and I think the only thing that is really covered is rust coming up all the way through the metal.

As for the color being off, if you had complained before you bought the car, the dealer might have done something for you about the bumper being off-color. You might try going back to see if they will help you out still. I think the most likely reason it is off-color is because the bumper is a different material and was painted at a different time than the rest of the car. On some cars, you'll notice all the plastic pieces like the door handles and mirrors are also slightly off-color. Good luck, maybe they will fix it for you

Thanks. That's clears up my understanding of the orange peel issue.
