Tochigi FTW!!!!

Don't forget your drink, BTW...

You're close enough to Tokyo that all you have to do is hop on the Tohoku expressway, jam down the S1 to the C2, and spend your evening cruising the C1, Y, and Wangan lines. Do that famous Rainbow Bridge curve and stop at the PA on the way back where everybody goes for snacks and tire-kicking. Side trip to Daikoku PA in Yokohama if you feel like seeing the crazy modded vans. Budget about 2 hours and Y20000 or so ... leave Oyama after midnight and come back the next morning. Memorize the map WELL in advance because you only get about 5 seconds reaction time before certain turn-offs.

Tokyo C1 expressway is still the hairiest urban race course there is. It's like being in Gran Turismo. Boy I miss it...

By the way, are you on JET or private?

Go to the Kinokuniya bookstore in Parco in Utsunomiya (or the bigass one in Shinjuku) and buy a bilingual road atlas. One of the best investments I made while in Japan -- I regretted leaving it so much that the next time I went back, I bought another one and brought it home!

Don't tell me you don't know the Rainbow Bridge decreasing-radius onramp... have you ever even touched a video game man?!?!

Edit - OK I was just scanning through Tokyo Drift to see if i could find the scenes, and ran out of time. Both the Y (through Ginza / Yurakucho) and Rainbow Bridge onramp are in that movie. I reaaally miss those roads...
