Default I've got two guys at the house painting the exterior trim. Do I tip them?

What would you do? Tip or no tip? If tip, how much? Total bill will be $420, and its a family own business. Father and son are outside doing the work, doing a good job.

no poll

No way...but I would offer them bottled water if it's hot out. That's about it. If they really want a tip, then say "You buy Honda stock".

i'd only tip if they were doing it for far less than other quotes or they were working under dire conditions and didn't complain.

Otherwise they are doing their job. Wouldn't you like it if someone tipped you at work everyday for doing your job?

I never get pizza delivered for that reason

Waiters/barbers, - they dont make any money.

Painters - their prices involve more labor than materials.

if they do great work, then i don't see a reason not to. a pizza and bottled water would also be acceptable.

i had a paintless dent removal guy come out to my old place of business and pop a HUGE dent out of my hood. he did an amazing job, so i tipped him 15 bucks on 65 dollar bill. i couldn't believe how well he did it. he was fast and very professional.

pizza dudes or waiters don't factor their labor costs into the price of delivery. Waiters don't get paid to carry the food nor do most pizza drivers (but some do ge a tidbit).

Someone that comes to do labor has factored in materials and what their time is worth to make a profit they feel is worth doing the job for. Hence what everyone else said.

If they did something extra or blah blah blah. You really want to help them out, refer them business.

on second thought - tip them if they do an exemplar job. If it's average, no tip. Peace

It's totally up to you. That's the beauty of tipping.

Depending on the house size, $420 for all the exterior trim seems REALLY cheap.

If they did my house (2000 SF Ranch) at that price - I'd tip them - and probably buy them a beer too.

The quotes I've been getting for trim painting on my house (exterior soffits, windows, around doors, and fascia) have been in the $1100 ballpark.

I'd give them a bottled water, and a beer or 2 at the end, thats about it.

I gave the Dish Network guy a water the other day when he was digging a hole to plant the dish.
Then later that night when he couldnt get one working, and 2 other guys came to help and they couldnt figure it out, and they tracked mud all over the house, and were there until 9:45pm and wanted to rewire the upstairs that night, I still gave them each a Coke.

Buckeye_Kid tips everyone who works on his house BEFORE and AFTER the work.

I usually tip each guy $10 before the work and tell them there is another 10 spot apiece for them when they finish up. Keeps the roughnecks who usually are doing the jobs from completely destroying my home while they work.
