If you get a cat back then you still have all your cats, If you get a turbo back then you still have the cat in the up pipe... witch is the only one the turbo can eat .
So basicaly to answer your question if you are worried about the turbo eating the cat all you realy need to replace is the up pipe. ![]() |

Just get a catless uppipe (like an STi one) or gut your own stock uppipe...no cat eating by the turbo
The downpipe and catback have nothing to do with the turbo's diet. |

is it hard to gut the up-pipe? and can the uppipe and stock catback be taken off with tools at home? or does a mechanic need to do it

Get a catted DP to pass aircare. They also cost an arm and a leg. Or you can switch your DP back and forth for Aircare time.
Basically said. You need cats to pass aircare. But you can pass with just one in your DP |

catless uppipe + stock DP + aftermarket catback = you'll pass aircare
some use catted downpipe and they past aircare but to be 100% sure. |

one of my friends (with a s13 w/sr20) passed aircare with no cats.
giotein told me that he ran a gas / ethanol mix and it runs so clean, he passed! |

Cars can pass the sniff test if properly tuned but and catless...
As for passing the visual, it all depends on the guy looking at your car. I remember a friend of mind had a old americian boat that was catless... well, they would always look under the car with a mirror and pass it.. LOL.... .. what they are looking for/at I have no clue |

i'm pretty sure that someone here running cobb stage 2 with only 1 cat in the DP on a 02 wrx has passed aircare.
I was reading an article on new japanese high flow cats... they've got these amazing expensive cats that are so good that even their race and drift cars can pass aircare standards with flying colors! |
