Default Thanks again

thanks again for all the info...

I gotta call them tomorrow. I wonder how much does the 100cells high-flow cat cost about? I quoted by an american supplier it's about $200US but ship and duty would definitely kill me.

Did anyone do custom mandrel 3" cat back exhaust from a local tunner? How much I should expect to pay?

PM Orbiter..or maybe he'll respond.

Technik has done quite a few custom exhausts for us iClubbers...both WRX and RS's.

For a 3" custom Apex'i setup I think it was a grand or so? Not too sure on the exact number. It's around there though I think.

you should read up the NA forum on the thread "flowmaster muffler" or something like that. guys there have a good point- its just a muffler. whatever is a good quality one will work, and it doesn't have to be a big import name either.

I believe Bavaria can do an Apexi cat-back for 980. That's labour, tax, everything included.

Wink

If u want a custom made exhaust ceramic coated it will be over 1000CAD

If u dont need ceramic coating you could get one for around 700-800.

hope that helps

Just wondering if they carry the STI Genome exhaust for the New WRX?

S Leung: Are you asking if Bavaria or Technik has the genome exhaust? Don't you already have an exhaust? Best bet would be Bavaria...they already carry quite a few STi parts. Mucho $$$ though I would imagine.

goten: $300 is for the muffler only. we'd all be jumping up and down if its $300 for a catback.

orb: i got quoted around $900-1k for a catback, stainless steel.

Here's a little known "gem" for those looking for a catback system.

Greddy Evo catback for the GC8 (probably fit the GDA RS with some mods) is only about $8-900. Not too expensive, and you get the quality of a brand name product. Sounds good too.

Default To put things into perspective...

I bought my stainless Stromung dual-tip for 250USD - used. At the exchange rate when I bought my exhaust, it worked out to to be around $600 or so for it.

If I just get the muffler what do you recommend for a 3" muffler? I want a quiet one with nice low tone when accelerate.. and sounds stock on highway.. brand name or not is really doesn't matter... what do u guys recommend?

Default Get as big a muffler as possible..

I'm serious. Read the Nov. issue of SCC - they've got an article on exhaust systems. Basically, the longer and bigger the can, the quieter the muffler.

Just the muffler? As in just a rear section? If you're going to do that, I say you save your money or get some other mod. It's basically changing it just for sound/looks if you're getting a rear section.

And if you change to a full system, unless you get a muffler that is big (with lots of muffling insulation), you're going to get a louder sound than stock. Most exhausts these days make power because of the straight through flows and the fact that they don't contain a lot of muffling insulation.

well, kent, i kinda understand his pain. the '02's have an excruciatingly small exhaust pipe... like... civic sized. on a car that chunky, i gotta say its pretty ugly. i *always* avoid pictures in that angle.

darren: i don't think its "bigger". i think SCC just said longer didn't they?

[edit] kent, thanks for the pointer. sounds like a pretty good deal.

Nothing wrong with changing the muffler to something else just for looks, just don't go expecting any power increases.

Default Yeah, longer...

canister makes things quiet, but larger canister does help reduce the noise - I think it has to do something with the shape of the chamber being able to acoustically cancel out some of the noise.

Then again, my Stromung is larger than my stock muffler and it isn't quiet!

i suppose larger canisters can pack more sound deadening material that's why.
