Unhappy Another Bug Eye down...

Well ladies and gentlemen, this past weekend was a sad one. My baby got banged up really good. Girl coming the opposite direction lost control of her jeep, jumped the concrete median and took out me and another car. I was able to go see the car today and take pictures since I didn't have a camera on me that night. I posted pictures and a complete write-up on what happened here:

http://www.hermanmedia.com/ngallery/default.aspx

Amazingly, we all walked away with only minor injuries. As sad as I am about the suby getting totalled, I'm more glad that I was able to make it out alive. Cars can be replaced, lives can't. She did really well in keeping me safe during the accident.

As far as what will happen to the car, I am not sure yet. Depending on the price, I'd really like to buy the car back as there is a lot of stuff that is still in great condition; engine, drivetrain, interior pieces, aftermarket parts, etc. However, I have no place that I can keep the car. I also don't have gobs of time on my hands to be able to tear her down and part out the good stuff. We'll see how things go this week.

-Blake

Yeah, I don't think your little spider would have helped much anyways.

Did the rest of the insurance thing today. They couldn't give me an exact time or date of when the agent will be going by to see the car. I asked if it would be possible for me to meet up with him there, but said it's rather difficult. However, he put a note down saying to call me when he goes by. Hopefully he does, so I can run by.

I've been thinking more about buying the car back. If I can get permission from my mother, I'll see if I can get the car towed to her house in Melbourne since she has a 3 car garage. I have a 2nd gen RX-7 project going on in one of the bays, so if I can get that sold ASAP, then she might let me.

The front windows are open in the suby now, so I might see if I can go by now and cover them up. With all this rain happening everyday, I'd rather the interior not get any more destroyed.

It's inpressive how much of a beating a Subaru can take and keep the passenger compartment amazingly intact. Impressive!

I read your description of the accident on the picture link - you might want to change the words "I hit" to "she hit" - it's amazing how words can be twisted out of context if lawyers get involved. Just ensure that every description you ever give of the event makes it clear you were always attempting to avoid the Jeep but got hit anyway. Don't exaggerate anything in telling the story as well, of course.

--Kevin H.
(learned this the hard way when a pickup decided to drive _over_ the hood of my 4000 quattro. Even with a statement of fault from the truck's driver, it took 6 months for their insurance company to pay up.)

Sorry to hear that man...

Do you go to UCF? I think I've seen your car parked in the Engineering Parking Garage a few times.

Best of luck to you

My wife was cut off on the highway a month ago and she put the car in a spin and hit all four corners of the Camry. I did not think the car was totaled, but NC autobody labor costs are so expensive, its gone! Now I have my new project

Sorry for your loss man, Go find a RS and do a swap!

Yeah, that was me parking in that engineering garage. As far as how fast she was going, she told the cops 55-60mph.

They are supposed to go by today and check out the car, let me know for sure that it is totalled. Unless they call and tell me that it can be fixed somehow, which I find hard to believe. Was able to get the passenger window up to keep the rain out. Driver side I just taped some trash bags over it.

Getting a 2.5RS is definitely at the top of my list for replacement options. Probably go with the white again, just not sure whether to go for a 2 or 4 door. If I am able to buy the car back, I'll definitely be looking into swapping everything over

I'll update later when I hear from the agent.

Just talked to the lady that looked at my car and said they will not be repairing the car. She noticed that there were upgraded parts, so she said to gather all the reciepts that I can and she'd adjust the value of the car accordingly. She didn't give me a base price of what I'd be looking at getting for the car. I also asked about the option of buying the car back and she said she'd look into what the salvaged cost would be. I'll find the rest out on Monday.

If I can get the car back for a reasonable cost, then I'll keep it and tear her down. As far as what I'll do with the good parts on the car, if I can track down a 99-01 white 2.5RS (haven't decided on 2 or 4 door) I'll swap everything into that. If I end up getting something else, I'll sell the stuff.

But like I said, I'll have more info on Monday so we'll see how things go!

I like the newer 4 door body styles, but for the older 2.5RS you gotta go 2 door.

Things are in their final stages. Everything has gone pretty smoothly so far with the insurance company. Just need to get the adjuster the rest of the sales slips on the parts on the car so she can adjust the final price. I should even be able to pick up a check tomorrow if there aren't any problems.

I will not be buying the car back. I just don't have the time or the place to work on it. I didn't realize it but the car was already taken to an auction place last week.

Now I just need to find a replacement. Been looking at getting either a 99-01 2.5RS or an e36 M3. Would prefer an RS, however they are just so hard to come by in this region.

Everything is done. Car has been signed over to Geico. I was able to unmarry the AccessPort today when I went by to see the car. I also took off the HKS BOV and the rear Cusco OS strut brace. When I can get some pictures taken and figure out some prices, I'll start up a new thread listing these parts and a few others that I'll be selling.

It was a real sad day today, knowing that I'll never see her again. Lots of great memories with the car. I will truely miss the Suby
