Question '00 RS: Headlight switch is fishy, lights occasionally turn off

Hey all.

I have a 2000 2.5RS. Lately I've been noticing a "finicky" headlight switch. I'll turn the lights on, but occasionally, if I twist the stalk even a very small amount, the lights may turn off or flicker.

They'll also flicker sometimes when I use my turning signals.

Would that be a fuse? A short? Maybe take off the stalk and spray the connectors with some WD-40?

I loathe electrical stuff. So I'll ask you guys for help. Thanks!

It sounds like you need a new combination switch. Not a difficult DIY if you have some experience working on cars and the proper tools.

That is the switch assembly on the steering column that operates the lights and signals.

Okay cool. Brian (North Ursalia at SubaruProParts.com) sent me a $63 quote for a new one.

A bit steep, but that's OE for you. I could possibly find a used one...

Can the connections be cleaned as a first effort? WD-40 or ....?
