Default Can a broken exhaust gasket trigger a CE light?

Some of you may recall a topic / thread "CE code : PO 0420" from a few days ago.

http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...hreadid=107055

Well, the dealer cleared the code, and the CE light came back a few days (300 miles) later.

I noticed a broken gasket between the rear-section and the mid-pipe. Now, the CE light with this code apperently triggers because 1) cat. converter is bad 2) exhaust temperature at the catalytic converter is too cool. Can a leaky gasket somehow cause the exhaust air to get out of the system too quickly, thus reducing the overall exhaust temperature?

I have a cat-back Stromung and SAFC which is set to reduce fuel only at high throttle and 4500RPM and higher. So, SAFC is not the cause of the problem.

Any thought is appreciated!

Yes it most posibly could, it would cause a lack of back pressure...could be percieved as a emmsion system malfunction.
Could also cause a drivability concern

fix it, clear the code and see if goes away

Did the technician let you have a look at the "freeze frame data"

it lets you see what code caused the ce light, and the operating conditions at the time the light came on...

such as, mph/rpm, fuel trim, blah blah, that info would be helpfull to me...

Thanks McDade.

Nope, they didn't show me the freeze frame data. That would've helped me out too because I can pinpoint the cause. They had no clue what caused the CE light, so all they did was clear the CE light.

Any other thoughts?
