Default IHI RHB5 turbo

I have access to a used one. Is this a feasable sized turbo to attach to my 1.8L for extra umph? I don't plan on running anymore than 5 pounds of boost.

If anyone has a link to where i can find more info on the RHB5, let me know. Thanks.

this was the stock turbo on a variety of FHI offerings including the early 90s 2.2L legacy turbo, a 160HP car.

it should work for your 1.8L. there are reasons why more folks don't do this sort of thing:

1) to run reliably you need to put $$$ into gauges, fuel computers, high volume fuel pump, etc.

2) decent amount of cost revolving around the legacy turbo header, crossmember, uppipe & downpipe when you consider parts and labor

if none of that deters you, go for it dude.

Or instead of ordering a new crossmember, headers, and up pipe from an older legacy, just get an up pipe from me. I have an old IHI on my 1.8L and it works quite nice, check this link and email me privately if you have questions.

Actually, Chad, I saw your up pipe. I'm seriously considering it. Expect to hear a LOT more from me.

Hmm...

The Legacy Turbo had a RB52.

I think the RB5 might be from the earlier 1.8l turbo cars.

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

The only difference is that the earlier turbos were just a little smaller. I've seen chad's setup, and seen it go. It's quick.

Any turbo can help that engine

Yeah DLC it's a lot quicker now though. I don't have to worry about getting too much boost and blowing my motor. Oh and it's running on 4 cylinders now too which is cool. I think a lot of the time I was in Vegas, the car wasn't firing on all the cylinders. In addition to that, I have an SFC so it's not as lean though I still have to figure it out. The up pipe has also been replaced with the one that I"m selling which helps and an intercooler. It's a much better performer now.

You're right about anything helping the 1.8L. I drove a stock 1.8L Subie a few weeks ago and was quite disappointed in the lack of performance. On the plus side, it did have a rear swaybar which made for some great drifting. I have a 20mm swaybar, but still need all the mounting points so if anyone cares to donate some parts...

mounting points? Ahh, let me guess.. The dog bones in the rear don't have the points to mount the bar right? I had to go through Dale Teague to get me some of those. I think it was under $90 bucks for a set of two. It took almost six months to get one of the OEM off though due to rust and seizure. I had to get a shop to torch it off. What a pain!! Now I have an OE 18mm, but it's not thick enough. I'm used to it now, thinking about whiteline's adjustable.. Which one did you get?

I need the transverse links that support the bar, the end links, and the mounting points to bolt to the bottom of the car.

As for the bar, it's a 20mm FHI one from Subaru.

I'll mess with it more when I get back from Vegas and have some more funds.

Bahmut, I'm pretty sure that's MY old bar! I think you were the one that bought, then I felt all bad because you couldn't even use it

Default ha ha ha!

Ethan:
It WAS your old bar!! ha ha! I hope you didn't feel bad, it was my fault for not checking into what needed to be done first with my car, not yours for sending me a perfectly good piece. Man.. that was a while ago!

SubaChad:
Yeah, those are what I needed to. PITA! Teague has some NEW adjustable ones you could use. I haven't talked to Dale in a while, but his site says that they should be for TRACK DAYS ONLY.. I don't know why, but I'm assuming it's because you can adjust the rear wheel alignment since the bars are.. uh.. adjustable

Hope that helps a bit.

as a side note, that's the same turbo that's used on 3 cylinder 660cc Charades... They make about 116hp to the ground...
