Default Problems starting, looking for input

Ok, here's one for you guys. Lately my RS has had some problems starting up. When I get in and turn the key, all the electronics come on, but it doesn't crank it doesn't even try to.
This is very intermittent I can't find a pattern of when it starts and when it doesn't. This has happened probably 20 times in the last 2 months.

After the first time it happened I was browsing the forums here, and read something about the gas cap. I loosen the gas cap then tighten it back down, and the car fires up good as new. This "Gas cap" fix has worked every single time so far.

I will be taking it into the shop on Saturday, but I was wondering if anyone here could offer some input, or simply tell me why it does this.

Thanks -

That's funny. My girlfriend has been experiencing the exact same symptoms from her '98 Toyota 4Runner. She had gotten it jumped twice when it did this before she told me about it, and she claimed that was the fix. We took her battery in to be tested and were told it should be replaced. A day after I replaced it myself and ensured the terminals and cables were clean and solid, it pulled this while I was there. All accessories worked fine, but she'd turn the key and get nothing. This time, jumping it did nothing. But waiting 5 minutes and trying again did it. I'm convinced there's either a bad connection at the starter, or the starter itself is bad. If you've got a dying battery or bad connections at the battery, you should still get some sign of life out of the starter. Maybe it won't be able to roll over, will roll but only slowly, or you'll get no starter signs but your accessories will dim or die while it's putting power to the starter. In your case, I'd recommend you start your search at the starter.

So I take it it's been turning over but just not starting is that right? I'd check some fuel system things, replace filter, FPR, stuff like that.

A little clarification -
This is very intermittent, maybe once or twice a week. When I turn the key all the electronics (dash lights, Radio, dome light) come on bright as ever, they do not dim even when I move the key into the "Start" position, the starter does not crank at all. The "check engine" light comes on as well.

It is still a pretty new car, it's an '05, with about 30,000 miles on it. The battery cable shows no signs of corrosion and won't tighten down any further. I don't believe it is a battery related problem because all the electronics come on without dimming at all.

It's still covered until the original manufacturers warranty so I'm gonna let the dealership look at it and replace anything they think might be wrong since it's all covered :-)

Thanks everyone for your input so far.

Ok, a little update for those interested.

I took my car into the shop and they said the car isn't throwing any codes, and everything seems to be fine. (they were not able to reproduce the problem at the shop).
They did find 1 bad cel in the battery, so that was replaced. It will take at least a week before I know if that fixed the problem. Because this happens maybe twice a week at the most.
