do not use the Whiteline bolt in the upper slottetd hole because they will slip. The Whiteline bolt is designed to be used in the smaller 14mm hole, not the large slotted hole of the OEM camber bolt. This type of camber bolt uses the small diameter of the hole and the spacer "tab" to wedge itself solid. Because the upper hole is slotted, the camber bolt has nothing to wedge itself into and only the force of the nut keeping it in place. It will slip, guaranteed.

with that said, because this bolt was designed for the smaller hole and you are using it in the larger hole, you should be able to get close to -2 just using that bolt and having the camber plate at zero! there is so much play with the small camber bolt that you can shove the knuckle quite a ways inwards compared with the OEM bolt. Actually the cam function would have barely any effect because it has nothing to press up against.

In general, I'd say twiSTies has a borked installation. Just -2 using this setup? I'd say his alignment guy is on crack and should pull his head out of that said crack and go back to night school.

The OEM camber bolt will net ca. -.8 to -1 deg of neg camber on the 05+ STi's. Not much compared to a WRX and 04 STi which nets close to -1.5. Using the camber plate correctly, he should easily get to -3 and maybe -3.5.

My suggestion? Go back to the OEM camber bolt, make sure that is indeed maxed, i.e. tug on the bottom of the wheel, push in on the top with the bolt set to max neg camber. then go up top, reset the the allen bolts to allow max neg adjust and go from there.
Arnie- I knew you had the explanation in you. I will try to get max camber with the car in my driveway then take it to the technician with the fancy lasers to check to see if I did any better than him. I will set the plate to center then adjust the cam bolt to max camber then use the plates to get the rest of the camber. Thanks for the tip and I'll give it a shot next week, as I plan on taking sometime off to replace my cobb front sway with a 27mm whiteline before my two races next weekend. Thanks again Arnie!

That's funny. I live in Pleasantville and my relatives live in Crestwood/Yonkers.

It's a small world.

Thanks for the help!

The trick to getting max camber yourself at home is:

- to set the bolt to its max setting (making sure the bottom bolt is also loose). rotate the bolt around and watch the rotor move inwards and outwards. when its at is most neg position look at the bolt head. The last tick mark should be straight up and down and aligned with the hash mark on the strut.

- use a 19mm box wrench to hold the camber bolt head in place using your thumb, index finger while simultaneously pressing in the top face of the rotor inwards. Then use your other hand to snug down the nut (with impact or ratchet). tighten lower bolt using same technique.

- the idea behind this is that there is quite a bit of play between the knuckle and the strut lower clevis (bracket holes). Loosen both bolts and see how much play there is by shoving the knuckle/rotor assembly back and forth. That play is good for around -.5 degree! So you have to make sure that the knuckle is pushed inwards as far as it will go when you tighten the camber bolt down.

If there aren't any bent of out of alignment components, most people's cars I've worked on have found only a 10th of a degree difference between sides when taking it to an alignment shop.

then make sure that your upper allen bolts are positioned in the "max neg camber" holes. Also make sure you are only using the OEM camber bolt in the top hole. never, ever use the 14mm aftermarket bolt in the top hole.

Good luck!

I installed my BC Racing BR coilovers over the weekend. Install was just a simple replace and install. All I have had time to do is install them and set the ride height. I found that I had bent both rear sway bar endlinks....One too many miles with R-Comps I suppose. I have no issues with 9inch wide rims and 275s...no rubbing or clearance problems with these coilovers. All I have to do now is replace the endlinks, corner balance, and do the alignment. After I get that completed I'll adjust the shocks to my liking and test em out. Hopefully i'll have time to complete the job and review them in the next month. We have a new project at the shop that is exciting and going to take up all my time for working on the STi

JP!! I moved up here like 8-9 months ago, i opened up a QuiznosSub restaurant.. life has been pretty hectic since then.

Its beautiful, if you ever find a reason to drive this way you always have a place to crash man.. im up in stowe,vt. good skiing/boarding in the winter too ! pm me

So about these coilovers.. i have my settings on 20f/21r and i did some serious work last night on my favorite middle of nowhere roads through a forrest etc. and these setting are wayy too stiff for 90+mph and highspeed cornering, i have to lower them on these unkept roads i use. I dont drive all out, but maybe 8/10ths speed not trying to kill myself, but i think im going to try 16f/16r next time out.

small update:

I autoxed this past weekend in BSP with these coilovers. The parking lot was pretty bumpy, a Mini driver mentioned that her hands left the steering wheel on some of them. I set the BCs to full stiff and the car got bouncy over these bumps so I turned the settings down to 25 front, 27 rear and went on to win first place in BSP.

Love these things.

I like them for racing so far. I think I finally figured out what settings to use. If they were double adjustable you could tune them a lot better for street driving, but I don't have any complaints. I like a firm ride and don't mind a little bounce. I have the inverted style on an 8k/6k 02 WRX wagon, and have about 5 k on them as well. I live in Bmore and race regurarly when ever there is an event so if you want to ride along your more than welcome. The next races I plan on attending are on the 28th in Bowie, and 29th in Philly. I was at Ripken and FedEx this past weekend. Let me know. I'll PM you.

I've been reading about changing out the allen bolts in the camber plates in order to acheive more negative camber. Does anyone have a picture of their camber plate with the allen bolts rearranged.

I'm just having a hard time imagining it.

Thanks

I just finished installing my set of BR series coilovers.

Overall the install went really smooth. The hardest part was breaking one of the bolts that someone (TiresPlus) overtorqued to hell. But other than that everything pretty much went as intended.

The one fault I found during the install was that the bracket for the ABS sensor wire on the front struts was just about 1-2mm to long. No biggy though, I was able to just keep torquing down the bolt and forced the plate that hold the ABS sensor wire to the bracket to bend a little.

Also, it seems like the rear brake lines are either touching or are very close to touching the inner fender well. I'm not worried at this time, but I may need to figure out a way to stop them from rubbing.

First ride seemed good, no clunks, squeaks. I took it to get aligned and the car has mega negative camber in the rear, -2.3 and -3. I was expecting them to adjust it since I have camber bolts in the rear but the manager was being an a-hole and wouldn't work with me on it (since there not stock ()). Oh well, I'll get the camber issue sorted out soon.

The front camber was excellent, right where I wanted it, -2.5 with the bolts maxed out and the front plates almost all the way maxed (after moving the allen bolts in).

Ride height is right about 14" from the center of the wheel all round. I have the dampners set at 20 from soft in the front, and 16 from soft in the rear. We'll see how that works out tomorrow at the auto-x.

Overall, the coilovers seem great. Fit and Finish seemed excellent. I can't wait to ride around in them for awhile and get it set to a good stiffness and get the camber issue sorted out.

Big thanks to Import Image and BC Racing who have been very helpful throughout this purchase. There was a delay out of their control and they went above and beyond to make sure I would recieve the coilovers before my race tomorrow.

I'll report back later on my impressions.
