Post what is this and what does it do?

it was getting into my car today and found a black knob (about 1/2 round X 1/2" high) with a threaded hole in it on the floor mat. Just above in the lower side of the dash is a small push button switch from which this knob fell off. I tried to put it back on but it didn't seem to want to go back on. (i'll try again later tonight when i get home from work.) Any way, does anyone know what this push button is?

Read about your factory alarm. That is the button to program new remote switches and it allows you to do other things as well. Put a drop of locktite on it before you thread it back on. Used to fall off once a month until I did that.

Ha ha! I was wondering about that thing, it's fallen off twice for me so far, and I just tightened it yesterday.

i thought it was some fancy do-ma-gijjer that kept the floormat in place.
