Default Wind Noise at freeway speed.

so I took my car in for this loud wind noise while driving on the freeway. It sounded like there is air leaking into the cabin of the car, but there is none, it's just a very pronounced wind noise it almost sounded like the air is getting trapped somewhere in the door or rear view mirror.

So they replaced the triangle thing around the rear view mirror. As soon as i get on the freeway... Bam! noise again. now I have to take it in again for them to find out where the problem is.

Anyone have the same problem? if so, how was it fixed? Maybe i can tip the tech guys a bit, so I don't have to keep going back there for this repair...

Thanks

It's more than likely normal. Would you rather be heavier and have less noise?

the mirror hinge line whistles under the right conditions. very annoying, sort of sounds like sheet plastic blowing in the wind.

if its a high-pitched, reed-like noise, its normal... frameless windows. I tried to get that fixed but they couldn't do anything. they even re-adjusted the hood scoop but that wasn't it. That's about the only thing I wished subaru did: frame the damn windows. I find it only comes on if the wind blows a certain direction.

if I roll the window all the way up, it's very easy to produce that noise, it's not that high pitched, it sounded like you have a leak somewhere.

This is the thing, this only happen on the driver side window, the passenger side window is perfectly fine.

I found a weird fix where if I don't roll my window up all the way, leaving few mm of space, the noise goes away...

also, did you block the rear air exit vents under the trunk? that will cause the windows to whistle...

That fixes mine too... except mine is on the passenger's window. We just have differing amounts of air causing the sound is all.

Its not the little sticker on the inside of the folding side mirrors?

The wind noise is coming from the side mirrors. Air comes through the gap between the mirror and the hinge, which then causes the high-pitched noise at high speed on occasion.
