Default Things you don't like about your legacy?

I've had my GT for about 2 months now and I'm very happy with it except for a few things...

1. Why don't ALL the power window swithces light up at night?
2. Why don't the power mirror switches light up?
3. I think the outside mirrors are too small
4. The premium sound system isn't that premium even with the sub
5. I wish there was some way to pop the hatch instead of having to open it with the handle all the time
6. The tether on the gas cap has to go
7. I can't get my seat low enough, I feel like I'm sitting on a bar stool when I drive it.
8. I wish both front windows had auto up and down

Other than that I love the car...

I hate not having a clock in the gauge cluster. If you have a bottle in the cup holder it covers the clock anyway.

Definitely the seat needs to go lower. Its got adjustments to go higher. I wonder why the lowest position is still so high?

I like our car but also have some comments:

1. "Knock" when steering wheel is slightly moved side-to-side.
2. Upper door panel pieces, by the glass, SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, most all of the interior pieces suck
3. Dash and passenger air bag don't match colors
4. Wood dash that comes with the GT Limited is way stupid
5. No heated seats, even though you can get heated seats on the OB
6. Tach is not mounted straight up and down

Besides that it is a pretty decent car. We also looked at used Audi A4's but they are still $$$$ here in the NW. Fit and finish of the Audi is way superior. $24K for a '98 50K mile A4 or $21 for a brand new Legacy GT LTD......Legacy is in the garage.

expensive to get r-12 A/C charged.
not as solid as '95-'99 on the road.
no rear sway bar <-fixable
doesn't have turbo struts <- fixable
doesn't have turbo brakes <- fixable
not having the turbo doesn't bother me. standard engine plenty torquey for me.
no fog lights. <- fixable

Default My quirks

Here's the issues I have with my MY97 OB

1. The Klunk, when going over bumps in the steering wheel
2. Close ratio gearbox
3. Stereo
4. Not enough power
5. cheap interior, leading to rattles
6. 15" rims, although now that I'm getting snow tires, they're cheaper than buying them for 16"
7. Almost forgot CRAPPY LIGHTING (fogs and regular driving lights) on the road. THIS SHOULD BE MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT
8. Road runner horn

You know I forgot a few which have been mentioned already...

The fake wood dash looks as cheap as a $2 crack whore and no heated seats. Although a friend of mine has succesfully installed a working set of Corrado seat heaters into his Impreza. He said it wasn't difficult at all. I'll see if I can find the pics he sent me and post them up in another thread.

To everyone who hates their wood dash, go to a junkyard and pull the black plastice pieces out of an L and shut your whining. Wait 'till you see how cheap your interior looks then. What do you expect in a $22,000 car? Real wood, or perhaps real carbon fiber?

1. No Turbo.
2. Paying for wood dash. (It is better than the L trim)
3. 120$ for a swaybar to combat the horrid body roll.
4. Vendors passing it over as a low profit area. (ie vs. the impreza and WRX)
5. Its not a B4

The goods mightily outweight the bads... (I'd still be kicking myself if I had actually bought that Jetta I was lookin at.), but the most evident is the lack of power for such a meaty car.

Once FHI/SOA remedy the power to weight ratio issue (and not with the H6-auto only)... this car will compete more seriously with the Audi's. (If SOA did the Audi service plans... but I think they make too much $$ on that area.)

[flamesuit] I think the wood looks just fine[/flamesuit] Although I do think that in the GT it should be more sport oriented, ala the B4's interior trim.

The things I would change about mine, many have already been mentioned, are:

1) More power, turbo would be nice, 2 even better
2) make the seat go lower, it's not too bad, just would like about another inch or so.
3)Rear wiper! I don't know how many times I could've used it, and don't know why we don't get it, but it sure would be nice
4) some cosmetic changes (which I plan to do, eventually) like exchanging the tailights for JDM style, giving us a hood scoop like previous years. (although, should be included in wish #1)

Don't get me wrong, I love my car, just some things *would* be nice to have. cough*B4*cough

1. Cup holder Location
2. Wood Dash - I'm mod-ing this soon
3. Not enough power
4. Intense body roll at high speed curves

1. You cannot unlock all the doors with a double turn of the key on the lock (my mom's 95 Camry has this!)
2. Rear windows don't go all the way down.

I Love my soob though!

Very, extreamly white!!!

I know owners of first generation Legacy's will agree with me that the way these cars rust is ridiculous, especially if you live somewhere, where the roads are salted for 5 months of the year!!!!

Wink Oh knock it off...

Yeah, some things leave a little to be desired... but try driving an 88 Vw for six years and see how much you complain about the Legacy....
But while I'm at it:
1. Useless fog lights (Fixed, Thank you Catz)
2. The uneducated "hey is that a WRX??"
3. No B4 RSK badge.....

my car doesn't have any rust at all, except the brakes (they look completely orange )

there are a few little things that i don't like but, for the most part i like everything....

except for the power locks errrrrr

the way the locks work is just bottom line ridiculous
all that was needed was a simple switch

Hmmm, what I don't like about my Legacy...

Haven't done the 2.2-litre stroker kit for my twin-turbo yet

The stock front seat needs to be replaced by a recaro or STI seats

The speedo only goes to 180km/h

The speed limiter kicks in at 194km/h

At 194km/h, there's a bit of wind noise around the door mirrors

At 194km/h, the rear wing needs to be generating more downforce

It should have come with the brembo brakes from the STI

The 6-speed from the STI would also be appreciated

It needed better ARB links, and better ARB's (fixed, fixing)

Stock tyres on the B4 were shyte (fixed)

incidentally, can anyone tell me what the klunking noise is from the steering wheel when hitting a bump??? i replaced my sway bar end links hoping that was the problem but it wasn't.

Just a few things.

1: Somewhat useless cupholders.
2: Sedan rear seats don't fold down.
3: Poor front seat padding, feels like I'm sitting on a rock.
4: CD player not standard. Stock speakers suck.
5: Wish sunroof was optional.
6: Needs better aftermarket support.

I love the rest of the car though. It's a great drive.

I wish there was a hatch release INSIDE the wagon. Makes sleeping in back difficult.

Everything else seems to have been covered but here goes:

1) Horrible lighting, pathetic would be a better term.
2) Unsupportive and uncomfortable seats. I find my Corbeau Forza to be much more comfortable - if you've ever seen this seat then you know it *isn't* padded or very comfortable. The outback seats give me muscle spasms in my lower back after long drives.
3) Funky suspension design hacks make swapping for aftermarket suspension a real hassle.
4) Cheap paint
5) Rattles. Everywhere.
6) Rattle/bump over turns from front suspension (afflicts nearly every outback and many regular legacy owners)
7) Plastic damned tabs holding everything together. Anyone ever heard of METAL SCREWS????
8) Auto transmission is not that great, pretty lousy compared to stuff Toyota has in cars in the 22-26k price range.
9) No limited slip rear diff
10) Cheasy "form over function" mudflaps that do not work and serve only to get the car mired in mud pits and to crack/snap and pull off your rear bumper offroad.
11) Horrible body roll after 15k miles. Band-aid fixed by adding a larger aftermarket rear sway bar.
12) Silly cup-holder design

I think that covers most of it. The lighting issue is the most annoying, along with the paint chips and body roll. People wonder why they see so many scoobies with aftermarket lighting stuck to the bumpers..... the simple reason is that subaru does not know how to make decent lights for their cars!

I hear the new-age impreza and legacy lights are a bit better. Let's hope so, because I outdrive the stock lights in my car at any speed above 15mph.

what don't i like? hmm.. not too many things..

slow in a straight line
only get 18-19 mpg, but that might be a result of me treating the gas pedal as an on/off switch.
cup-holder can't handle a 20 oz bottle of poland spring
rear window is foggy in the morning
quicker steering or slightly smaller steering wheel would be nice

a lot of other things have already been improved - tires, body roll, seats, sound system..

the best way to enjoy your car kkozma is not to compare it to the corrado. take the subaru for granted an appreciate every mile that no wreches are turned to get. PS my dad visited me the other week and loved the heated seats. I deleted the pics from my photopoint acount. Frank
