Default MY02 Impreza: OBS or TS / Forester?

as titled....

budget is around $30k....what will u guys get? Forester is a little bit tight on the "budget" but is still a possible choice (coz of its visualbility)....

OBS for $27k or TS for $23k? AT is what my friend going to get....

I would say go for the OBS unless you need more space.

i'm gonna go for TS as well, unless he/she wants a legacy wagon, then my vote will go to that (btw, why is it not one of the choices?)

I voted TS. By far the best value. I don't like the Forester and the price difference to the OBS is much larger than the features it adds. Think of all the mods you can do to a TS for $4000.

OBS sux

the suspension is raised. means alot more body roll. ugly 2 tone.
TS looks much more clean. the only problem is probably the interior color... but the OBS isnt any better.

spend the money on better looking rims for the TS then waste it on the OBS.

oki...reason why Legacy Wagon is not on the shopping list...is because my friend is now driving a 1993 Toyota Camry V6....and they want sth smaller than that for her sis....which is a N driver....and sth that can possibly carry stuff around and have good vision...that's why they pick wagon instead of sedan...

as for Forester....personally i think it costs more than it worths too....although it's a nice car....

as for choices between TS/OBS....i think they want OBS is because they are not going to modify the car....well....maybe rear sway bars, tires, possibly brake and strut towers, that's it....so shopping for a new set of rims is not allowed....

also OBS has heated front seats....roof racks (i don't think they will use)....raise suspension (maybe it has 16" stock so i don't think it's any worse than TS)....fog lamps (don't cost too much)....what else? umm....

i have called Specialty and they recommand us TS too because OBS doesn't really worth that $4k diff....yet i dunno what my friend wants just yet....they love the OBS after driving it for 2 days (DD test drive programs, my friend gf's cousin is one of the salesman there)....

so now is very confusing....that's why i am putting up this poll....want to hear some more stuff from u guys....

btw, this MY02 won't be the first Subaru in their family....i am surprised they want to get another Subaru rather than getting another Toyota....

i would've gone to toyota had they kept on building those awd turbo celicas... but whatever

eric: *if* shopping for a new set of rims is not allowed, check w/ specialty if they can "trade" the TS rims for, say, OBS or RS/WRX rims before delivery. i would love heated seats on cold mornings though. regarding the fogs, if i had a chance to do it again i would've just gotten the aftermarket fogs.

if they like tinkering they can easily make the TS a 2.5RS wagon, with heated seats

TS only have rim covers on the stock steelies.

I think for most people here the TS is the best choice. The OBS is for an "out-the-door" setup. All of the extra's would be worthless to you if you're going to mod it, and the OBS suspension isn't rugged enough for real rallying applications.

yeah....get a TS and trading for some other wheels w/ dealer sounds good to me....and i think heated seat is option on TS....will probably add that on....

talked to my friend the rack is useless....raised suspension is useless and he might be interested for lowering in the future too....fog lamp he prefers OEM....although he likes Hella....

we are going to check those out tomorrow!!!

there's no way the heated seats could be an option on the TS. it wasn't an option on my car. if its available on the TS i'm gonna be *really* pissed. i hate winter mornings.

i thought the drums can be easily converted to disc?

Eric, yesterday you said I didn't read your post and didn't vote.. now I did...
I voted OBS!
Reasons:
- your cousin has a camery now, I guess he wants something comfy than sporty
- OBS is rare
- more storage space
- they have lights in the glove box
- It looks nice...
- I like it
- I like
- I like

hm.... maybe I should trade in my car like you said

sandy, all MY02 have lights in the glove box, unless mine is a rare breed (damn right it is )

also, when i was helping Joe digging out junks before autox from his hatch, there was plenty, plenty of space and storage rooms, unless OBS have more cubby holes or what not, but i kinda doubt it.

It all depends on how much you enjoy yanking on hubs while the car is teetering on a bunch of jackstands.

Go Forester just for the disc brakes. And that crazy 1/2 meter sunroof!

Lightbulb TS over OBS, with Forester pretty much out

Forester is actually closer to the 30K range, where as the TS is low 20's and OBS in between I think. Financing will also make a difference because there might be different interest rate, but TS starting at 22K is a steal, and it's lighter (I think it's the lightest of all 3)
