Default Option: Link or Hydra

I am now at the stage where an after market standalone is the only option i really have getting a decent tune with my set-up. I have an chance getting a Link standalone for a decent price or should i save the extra $ and wait for the hydra. I know that i cant use the AVCS with the link but will it really make that much difference? I have a unique combo, 2.5 forged block, ver8 JDM heads. I need to start somewhere what do you guys think?

Get the Hydra, no question. Yes, the avcs makes a huge difference. Especially with JDM STI heads, which allow for more advancing than the USDM STI heads.

Talk to anybody who has had a pre-avcs and post-avcs setup, and they'll tell you to keep the AVCS.

Just think of this. JDM STI Ver. 6 heads flow more than the later STI's, but don't have AVCS. You can also P&P WRX heads to flow more too. However, how much the heads flow is not all that is important in deciding which heads to get. The AVCS and the higher advancing the JDM Ver. 8 heads give you PLUS the fact they flow mroe than USDM heads and have more lift is what makes them so great.

In other words, having JDM Ver. 8 heads with no AVCS makes no sense. Save your money.
