from what i understand:

you know those two screws underneath the clear plastic shield that hold the speedometer face in place? well apparently after about 50,000 miles on a motorcycle, they backed themselves out and now the face spins freely. the guy does not want to simply slap on another speedo because he's justifiably proud of his motorcycle's achievement.. and i guess maybe he doesn't wanna do it himself for fear of braking something? i dunno, i told him i'd take a look and ask around to see if i knew anybody with any ideas..

yeah, sky cycle is an option. FWIW, those gauges are usually really hard to open up and then close again while looking halfway decent. Usually, the bezel is basically crimped around the rim and the face/glass/plastic. So, you can pry it off and tighten the screws, but when you put it back on, it'll prolly look all goofed up (at least the bezel will).

Not many places will fix it either, since it's almost always easier and cheaper to just replace it. I hear that carefully cuttingg the bezel off, then gluing the whole thing back together with epoxy is a solution that gives ok results, if you do a good job.

edit: oh, and 50,000 miles, if you bought the bike new, is pretty decent, but nothing to really get all jacked up about. (I mean, it's more than I've ridden, for sure, but still, not much in the grand scheme of things. I've had bikes with pushing 40k miles on them before. Mostly they just break down a lot )
