Default Updated Project Legacy GT w/ Rotated Intake Manifold/Turbo

Well I figured it was time to post an update of the Leggy now that it is getting close to being completed. We have had some issues the past 3 months with a local machine shop not doing their job properly. I am fixing the problem myself in house and the final peice I need to complete the head work will be in tommorow so it should be running again then. Once its running again I will give it between 500-1000miles break-in time and we will then put it on the dyno for tuning.

We have made quite a few changes to the setup since the last time I posted here in the Gallery. I believe the last time I was still running the External Wastegate FPGreen. I have been through a few other setups since then.

Current Engine Mod List:
-Stock EJ257 Bottom End
-Built USDM STi Heads
-Mild Port and Polish on the Intake/Exhaust Ports
-SuperTech Valvetrain .5mm oversized Valves, Dual Valve Springs, Ti Retainers, Ect.
-USDM STi Cams
-Cosworth Oil Pump
-Ultimate Racing GT35R Rotated Mount Kit (.82A/R Turbine Housing)
-AVO Cat-back Exhaust
-Ported/Polished Stock Exhaust Manifold
-Rotated Stock LGT Intake Manifold
-Ported/Polished Throttle Body
-Custom Piping Perrin FMIC w/ Tial BOV
-Custom Fuel Rail Setup
-PE850CC Injectors
-STI Radiator (2x Thicker than the stock LGT radiator)
-TurboXS Catch Can
-GroupN STi Motor/Tranny mounts
-Billet Pitchstop Mount
-ECUTek
-TurboXS Tuner Pro Wideband

STOCK TRANNY and CLUTCH.

Now on to the pictures!!!

That’s awesome, I predict 500+whp on race-gas.

What are your plans for the tranny/clutch? Obviously you don’t really have to worry about blowing your gears cuz you’re going to roast that stock clutch at spool-up from that monster 35

Seriously that clutch is toast. I'd start considering a new clutch if you want that power to be put to use.

By the way that car is gonna be a beastttt keep us updated!

looks sick. How is the fitment of the Perrin FMIC. I am looking to get one. Not sure, I heard it rubs the hood and that you have to lose your fog lights, any truth to this?

Thanks, keep us posted on what kind of numbers it makes.

As soon as she is running again and I get to her up then I will take some exterior photos. I currently have Rota Tarmac 2's in Royal gold on the car, those will be my race wheels and I have a set of Prodrive rims that are replacing them for daily use.

If the tranny actually goes, which I dont see happening then I will go with a PAR or PPG gearset. As for the clutch I will eventually upgrade to a Spec Stage 3+ when the stock one wears out. The stock clutch will do fine for now, I know this because I made just under 400ft/lbs before and it held the power no problem. Thought I dont launch my car much either, even when I take it to the 1/4mile I will just roll it off the line as I am only interested in the MPH.

No issues with the intercooler piping. It did rub the insulation but we have now removed that. Since it is a FMIC meant for an LGT it sits higher than normal as the throttle body is normally on that side. I will modify it to sit lower eventually.

As I said above, I have already ran just under 400ft/lbs on pump gas and it held up just fine. It slipped one time but after that it never did again. I have plans for a Spec Stage 3+ when I get the cash flow for it.

The Perrin FMIC fit great!!! I cut my fogs because at the time didnt see how it would clear. After talking to Jeff Perrin he told me what needed to be trimmed to keep the fogs. The piping barely rubs the insulation under the hood, but nothing that will hurt the piping. Personally it is the best availible for the LGT as it comes with a very nice replacement bumper beam.

Here is the dynochart from my old setup.
-Godspeed 650R Spec Rotated Kit (FP3065R)
-USDM STi TMIC/Intake Manifold
-PE850CC Injectors
-Full Exhaust

This was on 21psi, yes the graph says 22psi but we didnt get that high. When we tried to go higher with the boost it wouldnt go any higher so we pretty well maxed out the STi TMIC.

Yeah I am hoping everything works out tommorow. Going 3+ months without my car has been killing me. The next project is my '91 Legacy Turbo.

Man that's going to be a sweet setup, I saw your car in PDP awhile back and it seems to be coming along Very well. I would love to take a ride in it when it's up and running, you ever go to any of those Tinseltown meets?

What the.. how... where did you get that intake mani... That thing is amazing. I love your car BTW.

*edit*
Did you try making the IC piping go under IM? Seems making it go over it is adding a decent amount of pipe.

The intake manifold is stock on the LGT. I cant run the piping any other way. To make it go under the manifold would require me to remove the A/C which isnt going to happen here in Florida.

Ahhh I just saw the mod list.. I'm not into Legacys much I didn't realize that was stock. I thought it was some custom IM to make the piping even shorter. Im guessing this doesn't fit on the ej257 or someone would be using it by now?

As it says above the graph, that is my old setup and I listed the mods. I posted it to show the amount of power the stock clutch has held before.

I havent dynoed the new setup as the motor is still being sorted out. As I said in the first post the car should be on the road again Tuesday and once I get through with the break-in I will put it on the dyno for tuning.

Yes, it will work on an STi it has already been done. The LGT motor and the STi motor are EXACTLY the same.

Hmm, I need to read up on Legacys, I clearly don't know s**t about them. Are there any pics of a reversed lgt mani on a STi? Comparibly how are the sti im and legacy im different (flow wise.. etc)? This seems more logical than reversing the STi mani.. slightly shorter piping and you don't have to move the alternator.

Great setup, but why go through this whole process and not bother to build the bottom end a bit? Atleast should have done some pistons IMO, seems kinda like a cut corner.

^^ that is very true, with this setup the bottom end would need some work, but then again i know of people who've ran 33psi, 510whp on their stock block STi and made multiple drag strip passes, and auto-x's and the damn thing just wouldn't give out. Yet just to be on the safe side he changed the shortblock out anyway and displayed the stock block.

I work at a shop and I plan to build my spare block on the side. Reason why I didnt build it? Time and money. Plus when I build it, it will be industructable. I plan to do a closed deck EJ257 with balanced crank, upgraded rod/crank bearings, crower rods, CP Coated Forged Pistons, ect.. I dont plan to cut corners when I build the block which is why I didnt just slap pistons in the motor. Trust me I know what the stock block is capable of with good tuning, and it will get me where I want temporarily.

Nope, I have never been to the Tinsel Town meets. Once the car is finished I may come out to one.

The throttle body sits lower and off to the side compared to the STi manifold. PDX has already made over 400whp with the stock LGT manifold so I dont think it limits performance. Alot of people have negative things to say about it because it looks plastic, but Porsche uses the same stuff on their intake manifolds as well. By using the LGT manifold we eliminated a little more than 2 feet of piping. You can find he thread on the STi w/ the LGT manifold by search the forums, the car was built by Harman Motive so it may be on their website.
