Default new baja owner and problem with dealer

I recently purchased a 2005 baja turbo with AT and have enjoyed both driving the car and reading the threads on this site. Lots of good info. My problem now is with the dealer. When I purchased the car it was sold to me with 'leather seats' but the car did not have the hard cargo cover. So I began to talk with John Mergen of subaru to findout what happened to the cargo cover as this car was previously owned by Subaru of America. Then I discovered that this vehicle actually had vinyl seats. When I purchased the car the salesperson told me that the leather seats were around the cloth, so I bought it with that in mind and the sticker on outside the vehicle stated 'leather seats'. But John of Subaru now has told me that leather seats are where your body touches the seats. My wife has tried several times to talk with service manager and nothing yet. John though emailed me this morning and a rep. will be contacting my dealership to get some resolution! I feel taken for a ride by my dealership.

Typically, leather-trimmed upholstery comes in a package that also includes special aluminum-alloy wheels, the SPORTSHIFT manual control auto trans, 6-way power adjustable driver's seat with manually adjustable lumbar support, dual-mode heated front seats and yes, the lockable hard bed cover.

Standard upholstery in the Sport and the Turbo is a dark grey woven cloth trimmed in black vinyl -- you should be able to tell whether your car has woven cloth or not.

Theoretically if you have a smooth, perforated gray material trimmed in black, then you have the leather.

There was a long thread about this exact thing a while back, can't remember how it got resolved but search for it and you should find it.

Default thankyou

I received your comments and I thankyou. My concerns have been given to another person in Subaru, and they are going to attempt to resolve this issue with my dealer. As for the thread, I will search for it! Thankyou.

It is definitely true that you can OFTEN see -- on Ebay -- Baja Sports advertised as having leather... it's partly because the black vinyl trim around the woven cloth has a slightly convincing leathery quality.

Default not looking good.

well my wife spoke to the sales manager and after a long dipsute of who said what, they basically said, "sorry, it was a typo and that's about it" I am really frustrated and it seems like this not going anywhere. I am really sad as this is the second vehicle I have purchased from this dealer and would think they would like to keep me happy as an ongoing cutomer.

Bummer. Subaru dealers do have a bad reputation in general unfortunately. Apparently there's a new head of Subaru of America who has said he's going to change this for the better. I would think that any results you're going to see would be from SOA putting the pressure on the dealership.

Say to them that you understand they screwed up -- that everyone screws up.

But since it's a sizeable screw-up, in order to keep you as a customer and show their good faith in recogizing their mistake -- perhaps there's something else they'd be willing to do for you. An accessory perhaps, free oil changes. something.

Unfortunately most auto manufacturers and dealers seem to to be more concerned with the dollar rather than the customer. that is why I spent so much time researching vehicles till I found Subaru, hoping I would not have to deal with them more than I have to. However if you have in writing, a leather interior and it's not there is a difference in price you might look into some compinsation. Goodluck.

Default appreciate the support

Well we havent given up yet. I am waiting to hear from Subaru of America as their rep. has not contacted me as of this point. They have been most professional and am hoping that they can help. You know the funny part is that they didnt even offer any form of comp. Even if they would have said,'sorry hear is some oil changes' I would have been happy! I work directly with customer relations at my job, and this would have been one of those times that if we had screwedup we would do whatever it takes to do a "service recovery".
