Don't worry, you're covered.

There's an O2 sensor Parts Recall for the 2.5L engine type (engine code name EJ25). The Parts Recall number is WXW80.

It's free. Being a Parts Recall, you don't have to be under warrantee, it's a national recall.

Be it that you need to replace the sensor once, or a thousand times, it's free. It's a faulty sensor, that's why. I've replaced mine in my 2000 Impreza 2.5RS five times.

If the dealership gives you grief, tell them to look up the Parts Recall number. If they give you more grief, call Subaru of America at 1(800)SUBARU-3 and tell them about it. They'll straighten the dealership out for you.

Damn.

I knew that, too. Why'd I go off on my 2.5L shpeal?

D'oh.

I've no idea about the 2.2L engines, but I assume it'd be the same deal. Call SOA, they can tell you. Maybe mention that you know there's a Parts Recall for the EJ25, you were just wondering about yours, too.

Siper youve been lucky... A recalled item is replaced with an updated unit that should no longer be defective so it will not qualify to be replaced more than 1 time..... If youve had 5 o2 sensors repl there is something more going on than we know. I doubt it is because of the recall . Have they all been repl in a short span of time?? If so than maybe a parts warr was performed (all installed parts have a 1 yr warr)..... A recall is performed 1 time per car thats it .....

No consistency to it, really.... though I guess it's averaged one every 10,000 miles or so. Excepting the last one, which I had to have done in half that time or less, I think.

I know a recall's only should be done once, but the parts are obviously still defective, nobody's been able to get the damned thing to work. My feeling is that this is why SOA recalled a lot of EJ25 cars to have their ECMs reprogrammed, because they were blowing O2 sensors. So maybe it's partial fault to the sensors being poor, partial fault to the ECU maybe making the engine run a little bit wrong, causing the blowout.

I'm not the only one, there's quite a few members that've replaced more than I have. Theirs were free too, as I recall. They bloody well should be.... it's not my damned fault the things keep blowing.
