Default streetrace crash in Richmond - police looking for a blue Subaru

Has anyone heard about this?
I've been searching for a while now, and haven't found a thing.

Something about a blue Subaru and a nissan racing on Russ backerway. I'm not surprised it was in Richmond... It's the next new city attraction!

Saw it on the news this morning....an N driver crashed and the Subaru (blue with a rear deflector) left the scene.

I decided that I should drive really nicely for the next couple of days, as I'm sure that all of the Polizei in the Lower Mainland will have a woody for blue scoobies with wings for the next week!

Ahh, so I wasn't hearing things this morning.

"looking for a blue Subaru" -

Well, that really narrows it down!

Police looking for street racer involved in crash
September 21, 2006 - 9:35 am
By: Mike Lloyd

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - After a relatively quiet summer, it seems street racing is back again. The Richmond Mounties are looking for a street racer that sped off from the scene of a fiery crash along Russ Baker Way in Richmond late last night.

Corporal Peter Thiessen says they're looking for a newer model blue Subaru. That Subaru and another car were well over twice the speed limit, flying down Russ Baker Way before the other car lost control, jumped the median into oncoming traffic and clipped a third car.

The 17 year old novice driver and two 18 year old passengers were lucky to get out with only cases of smoke inhalation after their car caught fire.

The 17 year old has now been arrested. The innocent driver of the third car that was clipped had just minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

So...what IS the definition of Street Racing???

I'm thinking back to the Sea-to-sky where Pops in a mini-van blew past me, is that Street Racing, or coincidental speeding? Does the crown have to demonstrate an intent (such as revving/guesturing at a light) or does the real trial happen by media (it is confirmed as street racing, please ostracize your neighbour if he owns a fast car).

Crazy overreactions....

OK, getting down from the soapbox now....

I think in THIS particular situation it is fairly safe to say that a race of some sort was happening. I don't think there is any overreacting by the police or media in this case.

I would have written:

Quote:
RICHMOND (VIC1130) The deadly game of street racing has again reared its ugly multi horned head, faceted with neglect, with strands of blatant disregard combed over it. Richmond Mounties are on a fervent manhunt for the monster that tore away from the scene of mangled metal, smoke and fire, screams and tears of blood on that street gridlocked with terror. Indeed, this travesty was not Russ Baker’s way as he quietly shed a post mortem tear, and turned over in his grave.

Corporal Peter Thiessen has outright declared that his valiant Mounties have in their sights, a newer model blue Subaru specifically built to obliterate and make a mockery of all that is noble and righteous. That Subaru, or perhaps more aptly named, mankind destroyer, and another car were well over twice the speed limit making attempts on every life they passed before the other car had gone astray, flying over the median into oncoming traffic clipping a third car and erupting into flames. Reports of gun shots and Kung Fu fighting are unconfirmed at the time of this report.

The 17 year old novice driver and two 18 year old passengers were lucky to get out with only cases of cannabis smoke inhalation after their joint caught fire.

The 17 year old has now been detained and beaten though he is not reported to be black. The innocent driver of the third car which was transporting orphaned puppies to their new disabled and elderly war vet owners was had just minor injuries.
Sweet.

Street racing with idiots is stupidity.
Street racing with "N" drivers is stupidity.
Street racing in School zones is stupidity.
Street racing your mom's car is stupidity.
Street racing when you're drunk or stoned is stupidity.
Street racing in the rain is stupidity.
Street racing in traffic is stupidity.
Street racing in neighbourhoods is stupidity.

But you can't tell me that when a C5 vette pulls next to you with what appears to be an experienced driver and the road ahead is clear, that you're going to take off slowly adhering to all posted limits and laws?

come on now.

On a side note, you have to be a dumb mother****er to lose control at 120kmh, while going straight.....

I am not sure if I agree on your statement of "But you can't tell me that when a C5 vette pulls next to you with what appears to be an experienced driver and the road ahead is clear, that you're going to take off slowly adhering to all posted limits and laws?"

If I may quote, I think this statement from Subaru Challenge can explain enough:
"So you think you're fast enough, so you think you can drive, are you up for a challenge?"

I am sure rational people wouldn't race on the street with any legitimate reason.
