Default Stolen WRX!

OK - I'm totally choked about this...

Parked my 2005 WRX wagon (only 18,000 km) in my secure underground parking Friday night at 11 pm (12th and Oak area). At 10 am, I return ready for a day on the mountain bike to find that my car is gone!

I was upset and felt somewhat violated, but ended going for a ride anyway and feel much better now. And yes - I have already checked out colors for the 2007 WRXs.

Anyway - the car was a 2005 PSM WRX Wagon with gold OZ Superleggera wheels and Yakima bike racks.

If anyone has any experience I would appreciate some info about ICBC and modded cars. I have the replacement insurance from ICBC and all my original receipts (bike racks, sway bars, SPT springs, wheels, Alpine H/U) - how good is ICBC at covering the cost of modifications/aftermarket accessories?

Thanks guys, Dave

Damn that sucks Dave! I'm sure we'll all be on the lookout for your wagon! I can't believe that someone stole it out of the parkade!

Doesn't sound secure from what I'm reading.

Only the STi's had them in '05 if I'm not mistaken.

Damn, that sucks man. I had the same thing happen back in my civic days. As long as you have the original receipts, ICBC shouldn't give you too much trouble. They paid me for everything i had receipts for. I couldn't find the receipt for my deck, so they just gave me a flat rate of $100 or something like that.

Depends on the adjustor.
Technically, from a valuation point of view, your mods are worth less than the OEM parts your replaced! I haven't seen the adjustors give less than fair market value for the car, but often they won't give you an extra penny for mods. Though you may have spent $200 on a sway bar, the one you took out was worth more than that, in terms of replacement cost.

That is the same car as mine. I just got mine on Friday...

Ok, bad joke. Sorry for your loss. Thank god you paid for the replacement cost insurance. Totally worth it on new cars.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

Just spoke to my landlord - our building has a locked box outside that contains a key for emergency services, and apparently, only emergency services has access to that box (not even the landlord). Currently, there is a hole in the wall where the box used to be. That explains how they got in.

There is no stock immobilizer on the 2005 WRX but I did buy a dealer installed aftermarket immobilizer. The immobilizer is disarmed using the remote, but you can also disarm the system using a command sequence (i.e. depress brake pedal, clutch, then flash lights, etc.) Would not be impossible for professional thieves to find the sequence.

There is a camera in our parking garage, but the landlord says that the image to too fuzzy to make anything out... right, that's useful.

Anyway - the full description is PSM (platinum silver metallic) 2005 WRX wagon, 17" gold OZ superleggeras, 2 Yakima Viper bike racks, plate 433 EMH

Also - my car was the only one that was stolen (not the most expensive in the garage), and no other cars were even broken into. Figure that someone must have followed me home.

I feel your pain, my car just got broken into last week in my underground parking as well but I ran down as soon as my pager alarm started going off and the thieves only had time to make off with some stuff I had in the back seat. Seriously, this city really is the pits for car theft

dude I think you might hold a record in the VIC for the number of break-ins...

Don't really know what to say besides to maybe stop leaving stuff in the open

ouch -- so sorry to hear!
KDV -- I think I'm the one who sold you the gold superlegs about a year ago.
I gave you a copy of the receipts -- but let me know if you need the originals or any more info when dealing with ICBC.

I hope things work out for you!
